In the market for a B6: Questions

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi everyone,
I'm trying to get rid of my E36 M3. I thought I should gain some knowledge about the B6 S4s before acually buying one.

What are common problems? (I know they're relatively new, but anything would help)
How pricy are parts/maintanance? (I do everything myself)

Sorry if this has been covered before and thanks in advance to all responses!

Re: In the market for a B6: Questions

Common problems...electrical gremlins...cam lobes wearing out...coil pack going bezerk…everything else is minor stuff

Maintenance...LOL...how about 11 quarts of oil? You will have to do everything yourself or the stealership is going to take your money are run… Other than that...just fluids and a timing belt at 90K

Parts are pricy in line with MB and BMW. I just bought an oil filter, oe brand ‘Mann’ 20 bucks just for the filter.

Zero issues and its now 5 years old

Take care of it with regular maintenance and don't mod the electrical or engine and it'll be fine ...

Check out who had it before and insure maintenence is immaculate.

Love this car - will keep it another 2 years ...

X2 You probably want to see what kind of driving they used it for. I'm sure they won't tell you they beat on it, but you would want to see if you'd be possibly buying a $3k clutch time bomb.

Guys, the 4.2 runs on a chain not a belt. Also, the wear item is not the chain really but rather the chain tensioner guide. End result is the same though I suppose - you have to get in there to fix it.

Yeah I keep seeing timing belt and I'm surprised at the level of misinformation in the Audi community about that.

Chain tensioner guides go and that's an engine pull from everything I've heard. And its an expensive one too.

    Thanks for the responses guys.
What electrical problems in specific, and what's the cause of the cam lobes wearing out?
