    My night at the dragstrip

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I went to our local track a couple weeks ago, and ran my car at the dragstrip. It kinda sucks, and everyone says that you never run your best there. Not that I'm trying to make an excuse or something, I ran what I ran. I got a total of 9 runs in, but here are a few worth mentioning.

My only mods are APR100 stage 2, Ecode test pipe, QTP exhaust dump, K&N filter with custom heat shield. Ran no spare tire, and put on the stock conti tires (about 30% tread left) @ 50psi so they would slip and grab at the track. They worked perfectly even though half bald. So here's what I ran:

    Best run:
Reaction time: -.041 (just barely red-lighted it )
    60ft time: 1.903
    1/4mi: 14.064 @ 95.743mph
    http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/n...s/IMG_9106.jpg

Best reaction time: (I'm framing this one )
    Reaction time: .001
    60ft time: 2.029
    1/4mi: 14.340 @ 95.061mph
    http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/n...s/IMG_9108.jpg

    Another good reaction time:
    Reaction time: .045
    60ft time: 1.927
    1/4mi: 14.112 @ 95.416mph
    http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/n...s/IMG_9110.jpg

    Another good reaction time:
    Reaction time: .050
    60ft time: 1.927
    1/4mi: 14.139 @ 95.234mph
    http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/n...s/IMG_9111.jpg

I was hitting .0sec reaction times over and over, and getting great launches. Had an awesome time

P.S. My friends took some video, so I'll post video up whenever I can get it off their camera.
    Ignorance is bliss.

    Quattro, 6 speed manual.

I can definitely hit a 13.9 next time, if I'm prepared and run my gas tank down. Can't wait

Those number are weak, I thought for sure that a 3000WHP Enzo would get at least in to the 9's.

good call on the 50psi...lol read to fast but there was other questions. What did you launch at? and did you just drop it or let it out?

Re: My night at the dragstrip

Decent run, but I would have expected you to be solidly into the 13s given the APR100 flash and assuming you had good 100 octane fuel. Some other questions to answer might be: what was the temperature, relative humidity level, barometric pressure, traction conditions and ASL elevation at the time of the run?

Although I'm new to the 2.0T engine with no intent to drag the A4, I cannot help but think of how my Porsche Turbo reacts at the track; with street tires on the 930, I never got below mid 11s and saw a variability of ~1.5 secs between fastest runs from different days throughout the year all at the same track but with different temperatures. Turbo engines generally react the same way to external temp/pressure variation.

I was running my APR100 program, but I had a tad over half of a tank of fuel. I only had about 3gal left of the MS109 I run, so in reality I had half a tank of about 97 octane if the gas was as good as it says. Like I said, if I am better prepared with less gas and run higher octane, I know I can hit the 13.7-13.9 range. It will depend on how good my driving has become as to how consistent those 13 second runs are.

Stated in first post, but I ran the stock Conti tires that were balding at about 50psi.

As for launching, feathering did not work for me. I can get it sometimes, but my first two runs were both 14.4 seconds because feathering resulted in me just spinning the clutch.

How I ended up launching it to get perfect launches every time, is:
    1. Make sure tires have a high amount of air pressure
    2. Turn off ESP
    3. I revved it up between 3,000-3,200rpm (hard to keep it in one spot, so go for about 3.2)
    4. Completely dump the clutch, then floor it.

This gave me pretty much perfect (I could work on the 60ft times) almost every run, but you have to figure out when to dump it to get the good reaction time.

The first time I just dumped the clutch, I was pissed so I revved it to about 4,000rpm on my third run. Dumped the clutch, did a friggin burnout, and the whole car torqued to the right so I had to counter steer once I caught and started going. hahaha it was fun, but 4,000rpm was too high to launch at with the tires I had on.
