PCV - how do I know if it's broken?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
As I mentioned in this thread below :

    http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=240668

I think my car is not boosting right. I am running APR93 and I thought I was supposed to max out at 18 psi's.

I only see 18 psi occasionally - 16 is a lot more common.

How can I tell if the PCV is broken?
I did the logging few minutes after I switched from stock to APR93. Should I expect more optimization and more boost after I drive the car a little bit longer?

I am also asking this again for people that can read the engine logs.

Does anything below look abnormal? Any help from people that could compare to their logs would be greatly appreciated

Re: PCV - how do I know if it's broken?

In Vag-Com you have the option when you open your Engine Module to see the measuring blocks.

In there you can measure three blocks at the time.
    There are more instructions here:
    http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=115367

For turbo boost the key is to deduct the athmospheric pressure from the actual reading - you get the atmospheric pressure by looking at the idle turbo boost.
The measurements are given in mbars - you have to convert them to psi.

I was hoping I'd get more responses on whether the boost on my car looks right.
I cant be the only one that logged their car's boost.

Re: PCV - how do I know if it's broken?

Take your oil cap off, set a piece of paper over it, and rev the engine into boost. If it blows the paper off, it's busted. The valve's purpose is to keep the crankcase from being pressurized under boost.

Re: PCV - how do I know if it's broken?

Thank you. I'll try that as soon as I get my car back from the dealership.

They checked and there is no recall for my car to replace the PCV.

Re: PCV - how do I know if it's broken?

I did this 3 or 4 days ago for myself. While it did not blow the paper off (you can't make sufficient boost while revving in neutral to overcome the vacuum on the paper), it coated it in oil. I ordered a Eurojet PCV valve fix later that day.

Good luck at the dealership. They fucked me because i'm heavily modded visually. I still have warranty to my knowledge, but because for the reason mentioned + being young i'm pretty sure they lied to me.

Re: PCV - how do I know if it's broken?

I took my car in for a failure in the right headlight. I have the xenons with self-leveling and that auto turn with the steering wheel. That one kept turn itself off after vibrating like crazy.
My dealership knock on wood is pretty cool and I good friends with all the guys there. They took the car in on Monday morning - gave me a 2.0t Quattro for loaner and they keep me up to date with the progress - I think they are planning to replace the headlight assembly
