    Mobil 1 5w-30 / 0w-40

UPDATE: Nevermind. I did a tiny bit more searching and I guess Mobil 1 0w-40 is alright. Can anyone confirm?

I tried to do a search on this, but I guess either I didn't do a good job or the info is not out there. Anyway, would it be alright to run Mobil 1 5w-30 or 0w-40 on a 2007 Audi A4 2.0T. The car drives around in Southern California.

    Thanks in advance,
    Jeff

I just put 5W-30 and the tech said there isn't anything wrong running it. At all of the Audi dealerships they now use Castrol Oil.

You picked up Mobil 1 0W-40 or another brand? Also, would 5 quarts be enough? The poster above said it takes just under 5 liters (5 quarts = 4.73 liters).

    Re: Mobil 1 5w-30 / 0w-40

5w40 is what we only use. We use Liqui Moly. Also Mobile 1 a few years ago changed its formula and it is not as good as it used to be. 0W40 is WAY TOO thin for our cars, it should only be used in the 2.7t's.

    Re: Mobil 1 5w-30 / 0w-40

if it is "way too thin" then why does it have a 502.00 spec attached to it?

Back to vstypicals's initial question; if you go to the Mobil site, the 5W30 does not have the VW builders approv. where as the 0W40 does.

Are you looking for protection or fuel economy?

Hmmm....I run this in all of my cars and run the dyno stuff in my trucks. Here's an interesting read from someone who did an analysis:
    http://forums.audiworld.com/s4/msgs/1667932.phtml

As already stated, the Mobil1 0w-40 meets/exceeds VW standards and is an approved oil.
