am i geting ripped off on repairs?

Hey everyone, so my car was recently involved in an accident and when i brought it into the shop the guy said he guesses the repairs to be 3-4 grand. This is about what I had in mind taking my car in, so I was fine with it. I have a 2002 Audi S4. Anyways today I get a phone call and was told that it is actually going to be $7,700. I was shocked.

Anyways, the estimate breaks down like this:

    parts: 4,400
    labor (repair and paint): ~2,800

22hrs body labor, 12 hours paint labor & supplies, 2.5 hours frame labor

the body/frame labor is $70/hr while the paint and supplies is 100/hr

is this shop ripping me off or is this about right?

    parts list w/ estimates

Repl 1 687.50 USED RT Headlamp assy w/HID
Repl 1 164.8 RT Fog lamp
    Repl 1 716.45 Bumper cover S4
    Repl 1 122.98 RT Energy absorber S4
    Repl 1 122.98 LT Energy absorber S4
Repl 1 61.05 RT Outer grille 2.7 liter
    Repl 1 53.07 Center grille S4
    Repl 1 110.18 License bracket S4
    Repl 1 256.68 Radiator support 2.7 liter
    Repl 1 122.98 Crossmember
    Repl 1 230.00 A/M Radiator auto trans
    Repl 1 239.00 A/M Condenser assy 2.7 liter
    Repl 1 378.60 Fan assy
    Repl 1 439.83 Hood
Repl 1 210.25 Grille assy granite
    Repl 1 79.63 Center cover

sorry if thats hard to read, repl=replace, next number is quantity, then the price
if any of these numbers are quite high from your experience please let me know...also just wondering if the labor costs seem a bit steep to you. what personal is surprising is the almost $700 for a USED headlight, granted it is HID but still...720 for a bumper cover...pretty sure I've seen rs4 bumpers go for less than this...and 720 doesnt even cover the fog lamp...and also the 440 for the hood. i may be way off but I am just curious and nervous about spending this much money repairing the car

also with a 2002 s4, which parts can I use for this car? (i assume all b5 a4/s4/rs4 parts, correct?) sorry I don't intend to sound like a complete amateur here but I just want to make sure I do this all right with out wasting any cash.

thanks for all the help, i really do appreciate it.

How can you expect anyone to reply without seeing the damage? If anyone does give you an answer you will know they pulled it out of their @$$.

Just by looking at some of the parts, you can definately get those parts way cheaper. $700 for a right headlight with hid? Lol that's like buying both right and left with the hid kit. I bought a set of s4 bixenons for $330 shipped.

From what I see it looks about right. You have to remember these are Audis not Toyota's parts are alot more exspensive. Most shops will mark the price up on all parts they get. And besides it shouldn't really matter how much it cost as long as it is done right and within specs, Thats why we have Ins.

Looks like you are heading for trouble with that shop. Its just that 8/10 shops rip off customers to different degrees. If it's not substandard quality parts, its the poor workmanship, if its not that, its going to be a ridiculous mark up on parts, or ridiculous labor hours, etc. I'll tell you what's going to happen as you go through with this. You are going to get calls later on from that shop with different excuses to jack the price up. Its quite a known fact (and you probably already know this...) that shops will always give a conservative guesstimate at the start to get your business. Then, they will slowly give excuse after excuse to bring up the price of the repair. At the end, you will be astonished (not in a good way) of how much the price has inflated from the amount you originally agreed upon.
