    Consistency Please?

So i just talked to the stealership as well as an independent shop and both of them claim that resurfacing a dual mass flywheel is either impossible or the incorrect way to replace a clutch.

Yet i hear it on these forums all the time that people are resurfacing theirs. Can someone explain?

    Re: Consistency Please?

You need the proper equipment to do it which nearly nobody has. Southbend clutch will resurface it for you for around $75 if you dont buy a clutch from them or for free if you buy one of their clutches.

Depending on how worn the DMFW is, it can be resurfaced.

Mine had 120k on it and we resurfaced it no problem.

The EASY way out is to replace it but that costs some money.

    Re: Consistency Please?

I have a DM fly for sale with 1500 miles on it. You should stop on over sometime and take a look at it. There is no one in Colorado that I'm aware of that have the proper tool to resurface a DM fly. Send it to Andy@SB if its still in alright conditions. I'll be able to tell if I can see it.

I would never let SCR touch my car. Ed Carroll is too expensive. I am good friends with their head audi mechanic. There is no one in this area I'd let touch my car other than Forest@Luxury Auto or Scott@Ed Carroll...

Oh i know Ed Carroll is too expensive. I had them quote it just for the hell of it and it was about 3K haha. And the independent mechanic i talked about earlier in this thread wasn't SCR it was Metrick Methodz. Anyways Jordan, i'll see where he prices me out for a flywheel and then i'll pm you and maybe i'll pick up yours.

    Re: Consistency Please?

resurfacing a DMFW is fine as long as you get it done from a reputable place like SouthBend. it's way cheaper than buying a new one...
