    What is rebar?

I am looking to install an S4 rear bumper onto my A4 and I'm told it uses an NA rebar. I have seen some that use a Euro rebar. What is this rebar? I'm assuming it's the metal bumper behind the bumper cover. Is this correct?

    Re: What is rebar?

unless rebar is different in the car world, it's like a long skinny twisted metal pole. The kinda redish color poles you see sticking out of large concrete blocks.

They sell lots of it at home depot.

    Re: What is rebar?

It must be a different kind of rebar because I have never seen those on a vehicle.

    Re: What is rebar?

neither have i. But that's the only rebar i've ever seen. And it is used as a reinforcement tool. So maybe they might have used small bits of it for the structure of the bumper???

rebar for concrete is something to strengthin the concrete and keep it from cracking.... I take it that rebar for your bumber is to strengthin the bumper...

except rebar is supposed to be rust resistant . Who ever made that claim originally needs to be slapped because it rusts all the time.... And they actually have red rebar at home depot though.

And that's what i was thinking. I've just never heard of rebar being used in bumpers haha. I always figured rebar was the name of that specific type of metal, not as a general term for reinforcement metal of any kind. Cause in that picture above of the rebar on the bumper...

that honestly just looks like a piece of metal, i would have never thought that to be rebar.

    Re: What is rebar?

    You guys are joking right?

A rebar, or reinforcing bar, is a common steel bar, and is commonly used in reinforced concrete and reinforced masonry structures. It is usually formed from carbon steel, and is given ridges for better mechanical anchoring into the concrete. It can also be described as reinforcement or reinforcing steel. In Australia it is colloquially known as reo.

    Re: What is rebar?

^nice cut and paste.... Such FMIC kits like a EVO comp comes with a new rebar as the old ones is removed to fit the larger core... you don't want to install any bumper front or rear without one.

The picture above shows a damaged rebar... and you can clearly see it's purpose...
