Sigh @ Either my driving skills or my car.

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I had some problems with a 2005 WRX Stage III, beat him a little off the start but as soon as hit boost hit, he was at least a whole car.

Is this normal for a 2005 s4 stock? I find it really frustrating how he can spend a 1/3 of how much i spent for a fast/better handling car.

Re: Sigh @ Either my driving skills or my car.

Not surprising, the subi is lighter and with what you said, doesn't it have more power too or so close that weight matters?

However, if you both get hit by a bus while screwing around together, you'll probably fair better ;)

Just remember, you didn't buy an Audi to be THE fastest car around but it certainly is one of the nicer fast cars around - right? They aren't 1/3 the cost either in = comparisons, closer to 2/3 meaning 1/3 less expensive.

Prior to getting our 2008 S4 Avant, I was all open minded to THE newest fastest WRX STI in loaded form. So, upon sitting in it, I declined the test drive because no matter how fun it might have been to drive, I wouldn't have enjoyed being in it long enough to care. Comfort, design, materials, etc. Not even close. Then I drove the new SAAB TurboX mechanicals in a wagon version (didn't know they were even built that way with the same Turbo X engine, tuning, suspension, diffs, etc) manual, red paint, pretty sweet really but I just didn't "grin" like the V8 inspires.

Plus, you know the NA V8 will be a good thing for a long time. Enjoy it for what it is or change cars for different priorities.

Re: Sigh @ Either my driving skills or my car.

The Euro plate slowed you down. LOL J/K

If he was not stock then its not going to be all that good for you. I raced my friends subi stock for stock and it was a good run with me just getting him at the top of what ever gear we were in off a roll.

The bigger stage turbo cars are going to require you to get more done to the car to hope to keep up. But still a stage 3 WRX is not a slow car so don't worry too much

    Stock S4 = 340bhp
    Stock STI = 300bhp

I don't know how much power a Stg3 STI makes, but I would assume it's more than 340bhp?

    I'd take a stock B6 S4 over a modded STI anyday.

For a Stage III WRX, I'd say that's about right. Not sure where you guys got STI from, if that had been the case it would have been over before it started.

Re: Sigh @ Either my driving skills or my car.

power-to-weight ratio. and no...taking your backseat out isnt helping out. the s4 engine is significantly heavier than the STI's. your rims are probably heavier. the steel reinforcements in the S4's doors are heavier. the whole entire body of the s4 is heavier. And unless you can get your engine to put out 450 whp or more, the weight of your car will always slow you down.

I hate when people say stage 2/stage 3 when talking about Subarus. It doesnt specify anything, what size was the turbo, how much boost was he running. Even with that being said, a stock turbo WRX is very capable of walking a stock b6 S4 with a few productive mods so whats the big deal here.

Don't stress it Mitch. You have a MUCH better car over all. You're not going to beat everyone. Be careful out there.

That's it Mitch, go buy the supercharger...time to bolt on some power!

Like my buddy Likewater says above, don't stress it too much. You know you made the right choice buying the S4, and you knew (at least should have) that certain cars would be able to still beat you - espcially completely modded out ones. Be glad you weren't racing a Stage III B5 S4...

BTW, why do you think I bought a wagon? Hopefully (seriously) people don't want to race me. I'm not into that anyway.

Those STI's, EVO's, and G35/350Z's seem to fall hard on there face at speeds over 100MPH. It is almost like they hit a wall. I would say your car did better than expected. The only problem with modded turbo cars is you never know how they are running.

    Vf Supercharger!!!!

if you buy a Subaru (and make it Stage III), you will hate how rough the car rides or how cheesy the interior is with plastic panels!.

Agreed, the whole stage thing is for ricers ot Audis I guess... Even the new WRX in stock form would give an S4 some trouble from a dig and with the previous models it would take just a few boltons.

To the OP... Since you seem disappointed by losing to a WRX stay away from SRT-4's, Cobalt SS, Mazdaspeed 3's. anything with a big american V8, and of course STI's and Evo's. If you wanted the most bang for the buck or fastest best handling car on the block, you bought the wrong car.

OneFastBMW, I don't know why so many people say that, but it's silly and makes no sense. Yes, certain FI cars can run out of steam up top but it's not like it's some trait for those cars you mentioned. The STI and WRX have a smaller turbo so it's somewhat true for them. However, bolt on a larger turbo or even get a tune and exhaust and it's not the case anymore. Evo's and SRT-4's will pull hard up top, especially once they have a few minor mods, mainly because of weight and the size of their stock turbos. Put a bigger turbo like a GT35/37R on an Evo and you can trap around 150mph in the 1/4. So, I'd say they do fine up top. Even in stock form an Evo 9 can trap 106mph and it does not fall on its face after that.

Yeah this wasnt an STI, it was a WRX, so... :(

I still think my car is a better deal dont get me wrong, just kinda hard to get over the fact I could have spent no money at all for speed. Plus, I dont think cops car about audis to be honest. There was a day I was speeding right past a cop who lasered me(my v1 made funky noises) and I was obviously speeding he didnt ticket me. On my way back to that spot he pulled over some riced up integra.

I love this video though, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8K3ATL6ATeg

Sorry, but even a SC S4 isn't anything special when it comes to a lot of the cars we're talking about here in regards to speed. The first SC S4 schmuck that tries to race an Evo with cams, boltons, and a tune will quickly realize that. The S4 is a great all around car and I'm enjoying mine, but it will never be an incredible performance car, supercharged or not. Put 11k into any of the cars I mentioned earlier and an SC S4 will be seeing nothing but taillights.

well I totally agree with you, there is always something faster. BUT, I totally think the SC will bring the power that was originally missing from this car. I wonder how a SC S4 would do in 1/4 mile.

from what ive heard and read the b6 b7 s4 isnt for someone who wants to whip most cars out there.. slap a chip and an exhaust system on it and call it a day, unless you have alot of money to dump into it, they are quick yes, but not fast either.. you want a fast audi, go for the b5 s4, but then you have to worry about if the car will make it through the race or not lol, lots of problems, and alot of upkeep on those beasts

They are advertised to make around 500 at the crank with the new VF SC.

High 11s at best if it's at the stock weight. With average driving somewhere in the mid-low 12s would be my guess. These things are fat. Takes alot of HP to accelerate a fat car from a dead stop. I hope somebody proves me wrong and they are quicker/faster with the SC kits. This is not the ideal car for drag racing. From a roll I bet it would be pretty sweet though....

I wouldn't even compare most of the cars we are talking about with the S4.
I know I may have a biased opinion hahah :)!

But seriously, would you rather have a quick, great handling car that looks awesome and is safe with very high quality build materials, or a ricer that can run quick quarters??

I would choose the S4 again every time.
