Unhappy HELP!! questions about the 2000 tt i bought today

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Sup guys, i just bought a 2000 audi TT v4 turbo today. i am pretty sure something is wrong with the suspension... it is making noise in slow speed when i shift or going in first gear from 100% stop!! any advise??
QUESTIONs ... Car drives fine with good acceleration. but it seems getting slow overheating when i hit traffic... the temp gauge will be 3/4 towards to "HOT"... once i started driving, it will come back to the middle... and it stays in mid while there is no traffic.... is that normal???
car has 103xxx miles on.. what should i pay attention to in terms of engine wise.... pretty sure timing belt has been replaced and the clutch grabs fine too.. but in first or 2nd gear... engine seems making wired noise like 2 pieces of metal squess against each other...
PLEASE HELP ME GUYS

Have the Timing Belt, Water Pump, and Thermostat been changed? If you cannot determine this, you have a potential problem. Timing Belts need changed every 60K to 70K, period. This work (the package) is anywhere from US$900-1300 at an Indie in Atlanta GA.

Cooling is usually the water pump or fans. There is a Fan Control Module that is known to fail. Start car. Turn AC on full COLD. Open hood and check BOTH fans (large and small) running. If not, either a fan or the fan control module is bad. The FCM AND fans run about US$700 installed. A FCM by itself is much less expensive, and takes little time to replace.

You need to have the engine "dog bone" bushing replaced. The TT and Golf/Jetta MkIV share a bushing that connects the engine to the chassis to keep it from making noise (slapping/shifting) while you accelerate. That bushing wears out. Replace it.

I have 118K on my 2000 TTQC, and track it. They can be made very dependable, but a sketchy history is a good reason to not buy it. From whom did you buy it? Service records? Any known history?

1st and 2nd gear (your spellling is making htis difficult bucko) noises sound like clutch is worn from misuse.

Re: HELP!! questions about the 2000 tt i bought today

Ok, i started the car in the morning, turn on the AC to full. and both fans worked... so i guess it is the bad theromostat coz it only overheats when i hit the traffic... any opinions guys??
2nd..i took the car to get a oil change, after they lifted the car up, i found out that both Front axles are NEW,, but at the place where the left side axle connected to the trans.... when i turn it, it was making the "clicking" sound...i guess that explans why the car is making noise in 1st and 2nd gear when i engaging the clutch..HELP me on this, what should i do? the tech there told me that it was inside the trans...can't be fixed or get a new trans
3rd.. from what i understand the engine has a K03 turbo.. should i get a turbo timer on that? another thing... the car is 100% stock.. and when i shift while driving, it was making "whooosh" sound.. it that a DV???
again. thx for all ur help. this is my first turbo car.. my old 2000 a4 had v6 engine in there.. so i am pretty noob of the k03 thing, the ONLY thing i know is that the turbo goes out real fast, lol car has perfect paint and no oil leak at all. what are the good maint i can do to protect the trans and turbo???again THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!

ROTFL- somebody finally caught the V4 shitte.

No turbo timer required fpr pete's sake: it has an after-run pump.

Visit the audiworld TT Forum and FAQs: best TT database in the world. As far as the clikcing goes, get a second opinion. Get under the car yourself and see the source. I'm not clear on why it wouldn't click all the time if it were "inside the tranny".

Do you know the trick for reading your water temp using HVAC controls (Block 49 on the system)?

i have the same prob. after driving it for about an hour, it starts overheating when i'm n slow traffic. it goes back to center when i speed up. this is with the aircon on auto.

while researching on the solution, i came across this thread. It's a long read, but a good one.

    basically, the gist is:
our cooling fans have 2 speeds: high and low. the oem fans were built poorly and the 'low' speed stops to function after a while and you're left with only the high speed (the fans run 'high' on regular intervals with the aircon in auto). but with just the high running every 20 seconds or so, it's not enough to get the heat out of the engine, hence you overheat.

unfortunately, you cant repair the 'low' speed unless you disassemble the fan. and still, it's not an easy job unless you're really savvy with these electrical stuff. so the solution is to replace the fan with an upgraded fan.

i just left my TT at the stealership today to have the new fan installed. Will let you know if that indeed solves the problem.

Did you CHECK THE MAINTENANCE history? It more than likely needs a water pump. If the fans operate properly (sounds as if they do), and it heats up during idle, then most likely the water pump is pared down. The OEM is PLASTIC. Get a Diesel Geek kit with metal impeller.

FIND YOUR MAINTENANCE HISTORY. Dealer can cough it up, any delaership record will be accessible.

Just wanted to confirm that my car's overheating problem was indeed due to the fan.

I live an hour away from my office and usually when i get home/office my car's temp is between 102-104degC (using the 49C setting in the aircon). Since i've got the TT with the new fan on, i'm now between 86-88degC.
