Best gear to take full advantage of?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I was just wondering, where is the "sweet" spot in our car that would give us the maximum advantage when doing a race from a roll? I would think that I should sit in an RPM like 3000 right before I hit my full boost around 3500-4500 rpm.

Yea, unfortunately I lost my "dig" advantage after I put the T28 in, the K03 did a good job in the low end. No more power braking for me haha.

Re: Best gear to take full advantage of?

I would have to say second or maybe third. I don't have any info to back it up except the ko3 can't move enough air to pull for long starting from 4th or 5th at 3k. I also know that second feels the most fun when I'm driving.

Re: Best gear to take full advantage of?

Well it really depends on what speed you are starting your "roll" at. Figure out what speed you want that start to be at then look at the gear/rpm ratios and find the gear that will put you at 3000-3500 or whatever you want to be at. If "roll" is like 20-35 I would think 2nd, 35-50 3rd. Need to figure out start speed first...

Well then there you have it. 3500 rpm --> 35 (2nd) or 3500 --> 55 (3rd). You said you want to be at about 3500 when you start - right before full boost correct? 2nd gear always feels like its the fastest. Maybe start at 35-40?!

2nd gear feels the fastest for me as well. your car would probably pull hard in 2nd 3rd and 5th

yeah the tip has some extremely long gears. but to the OP I usually like going from 60 in 3rd because i consider 4th my money gear since i can hit about 125mph and 1st and 2nd gear seem to be way too short

I launch at 5.5k and my GT28 chirps the tires and off I go. I vote 1st gear.

Re: Best gear to take full advantage of?

=( YOU DRIVE AN AWD TURBO VEHICLE AND YOU DONT KNOW WHAT BRAKE BOOSTING IS...

Brake boosting is a good way to take lag out of the equation for turbo cars on highway rolls. You basically put your car in the gear you want to be in, put your foot into the brake pretty good and also mash the gas until it starts to boost up. Once you reach full boost you let off the brake and the built up boost sling shots the car!

too bad brake boosting on a DBW car causes the throttle to shut.

it works, but pays a heavy toll on your brakes as youd imagine since its basically using your breaks to put so much load on the motor it spools it

Yup heavy toll on the brakes.

Its also good for breaking in high hp engines, ie seating the rings under load.

I did this in my v8 914 (as in 5th gear I would just accelerate too fast... didnt put much load on the engine)
