Well on start-up I keep misfiring and it's throwing the cel about every two tanks of gas. So I figure I should replace/upgrade my coil packs. Where did you find your coil packs for the 3.0, and what are the best ones?

Try ECStuning.com.. and i would strongly reccomend that you get that checked out by PES, may be something besides coilpacks, I had a 3.0 motor blow up bc of their shit s/c.

carson at riversideaudi is a good source. sign up for an account through AW.

I'd scan the codes first though. might be due to something else.

Yeah I did its multi misfire and cylinders 4 and 5 I believe. I am getting alot of carbon buildup on my exhaust so I know I'm running rich, but I'm afraid to have PES lean it out because I'm stock internals.

you using a 4 bar fpr by chance? I agree that you don't want to be leaning out. What do your plugs look like? Mine got pretty black in less than a year just after winter.

Are you getting the misfires when the engine temps are not up? If the engine has not warmed up completely, you can get a cell if you push it too hard. I would not go over 4K with it not warmed up completely.

I also just cleaned out my cone filter. It was caked with dirt and sud. You could not see it if you look at it, but bang it against the ground and walllaaa. Car runs much smoother now and my MPG computer rating is up by 2 from before.

For CP's, I get the latest rev from Carson. But the misfires could just as easily be plugs.

    Re: Best 3.0 Coilpacks

Idn I'm going to pull the plugs this weekend when I'm back home, there about a month old but I'm sure there going to be dirty.

I'm getting the misfire codes when I start before I even move it. It runs like s#it for the first like 10 seconds just hunting for the idle, I believe this is where the misfires are happening especially since I know it runs lean at startup as all A4s do. I usually let it warm up untill the temp guage comes off cold...lately I've been very busy so I sometimes just start driving keeping it under 3k untill its about a quarter off cold.

Haven't looked at the filter in a long time, I'll check that tomorrow when I have Autozone clear my codes since I don't feel like waiting for them to go off in a day or two.

    Re: Best 3.0 Coilpacks

misfires only at startup? Could be CP but sounds more like vac leak or maybe clogged injectors. swap CPs from 4 and 5 to different positions to see if the misfire codes change to those cylinders. If that's the case, then might as well order a couple of spare CPs while you're at it to keep in the trunk.
