I am wondering which one is better and why. I have Hawk HPS but I want something more aggressive for the street. I do some track days and autocross. what do you guys recommend?

    Thanks

hawk hps is already very aggressive.. so aggressive that they destroy your rotors over time. are you sure you want better?

Not many people have carbotech pads but i hear they're pretty good.

Both are excellent. I would take Carbotech so long as you're prepared to change your rotors since you're going from metallic to ceramic pads. Ceramics will always be cooler than metallic pads. Portefileds are great and you won't have that problem but you will get brake dust and they will likely not last as long as the Carbotechs.

I got the carbotechs for a track event and just left them on for daily use. I think they're great pads but very noisy, maybe too noisy for a daily driver

Re: Carbotech Pads or Porterfields Pads?

Have very high regard for Carbotech pads here, have had several sets. Just like you wouldn't choose an all season tire for your car (God, No!), don't choose one brake pad. If you simply insist, then get the Carbotech Bobcat. They're great in all weather conditions (unlike some track pads that would take too long to warm up if it was cold out....oops!), are a rotor friendly ceramic compound, and have lighter dust than stock (both color and quantity). They're totally fine for autoX days, and I have done a track day with them, but again, if you're really into the track, you'll want track pads. I've tried one of the carbotech track pads, don't remember which one at the moment, and they were excellent. The guy at Carbotech is completely helpful, and will talk you through any questions. Their site can help you with the transition to the ceramic compound, it's not that difficult, and one you probably won't turn back from. I can't comment on other brands (besides Mintex Red Box, which I found absolutely awful on my B5), mostly because (although I have no connection to c-tech) I wouldn't choose anything else at this point, there's no reason to.

If you auto-x but daily drive, I would try out either the Carbotech AX6 or XP8. The latter will be the more aggressive and will have about a 150* higher operating range. Wouldnt do any higher though.

I know this after extensive experience with both..Porterfield R4S for the street..nice high temp/brake torque #'s..basically the street application of their R4 race pads..they will be a bit noisy when coming to a slow stop..big deal.. if u wanted ultra-quiet then drive a tomb-like Lexus..good buy at about $120..even for auto-x..but..if your will be tracking then Carbotech 10's hands down..

If you go with Carbotechs, go with Bobcats for street and X10 front, X8 rear for track. Give Danny a call at Carbotech, he's very helpful and knowledgeable.
