    Reliability after 70,000 mile? Transmisison?

Hey guys! I tried searching a bit but couldn't get exactly what I was looking for...

I hear lots about transmissions on the 4.2 (usually A6) failing near or above 70k; for those with said mileage and higher, can you post feedback and shed some light for me on this topic? I'm helping a family member shop for an A8.

depends on what year you get. Mine is on it's second transmission (was replaced right before I bought it w/ a warranty on the tranny). From what I hear, some do well, and some don't. Best bet would be to get one you can test drive first, check for tranny leaks, inconsistencies when reversing, and check for overheating issues. A good tranny flush with Audi trans fluid should help substantially as well.
