Got an iPhone, Need to be able to charge it and listen to music.

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Just broke down and bought an iPhone 3G. Now I need to be able to charge it and listen to music.

I have: 04 A4 with Symphony 2 non-bose 6-disc unit. With Sat - but no Sat tuner installed.
I would like a similar setup to what xtort44 has here:
    http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...ghlight=iphone

I do not want to do an FM modulator, had bad luck with them in the past.
I would also like something to hold the phone in place and with as few cables as possible. And no I'm not going to use the Tape adapter.

What do I need to do?
How much do I need to spend?
    Links?

Thanks guys, Been searching a little bit - got a few ideas. But no diffinitive answers. I don't know much about the Audi Sound systems.

You will not be able to listen to music and receive phone calls. I had my iphone hooked up to my aux input which would let me get calls and listen to music.

I have the Neo Prolink for my 2004 A6. It charges the iPhone, pipes the iPod interface into the radio as "CDC" and I still have my satellite radio and steering wheel controls. I use a bluetooth headset and when a call comes in, it mutes the song, lets me talk and then resumes play when I hang up.

It was $180 but, I drive a lot so it was a no brainer for me.

    Here's the manufacturer's site:

For mounting the iphone, the best thing that I found was the DLO ventmount (http://www.dlo.com/Products/ventmoun...showpage&cart=)

I use a simple Sony tape which hooks to the iphone's headphone jack. I think this is the cheapest way to go about it. You can also arrange the wire going out the tape in a way that looks pretty good. I will post some pics of the setup once I get my DLO ventmount (right now am using a cheap cell phone holder, also goes in the vents), I just ordered it couple of days ago.

Re: Got an iPhone, Need to be able to charge it and listen to music.

I have the Blitzsafe one and it works great for ipods but it charges my iPhone but doesn't play music because it's not an "official iphone accessory" or something. I don't know if I would recommend the blitzsafe since it was $100 and the cable is coming apart where it meets the ipod connector. I think it's from people sitting on the stray cord with no ipod attached so many times thus getting bent in weird ways.

I thought about this one - but then how do I charge it? I'd rather not have to put a tape in the deck either. If I can figure out how to get a dock mounted to the vent, and have it charge and hook up to aux input of the car deck, that would be perfect.

I did not mention anything about charging it coz I never had to charge my iphone in the car. The battery of these can last a good 3 days without charging at all, specially if you turn off unnecessary services running on the iphone's OS. You could also put brightness to something like 50%, and restart your iphone once in a while to kill any hung processes.

Am thinking about an alternative too to hook it it up to the aux input, not sure yet how to do it though.
