I just logged my car and am noticing that i am getting ALOT of misfires on cyl5. I want to check my coils but not sure what i should do to check them. Move the coil around and see if the misfire follows it around?

That's the best and easiest way to check if its the coilpack.

    Re: Misfires

I had the same problem a few weeks ago. TONS of Cyl5 misfires. My friend and I swapped out the injectors, coilpacks, and sparkplugs. Took 6 hours and the problem was still there. Baffled, my friend saw a light bulb, and realized it was one of the sensors near the top of the airbox, the ignition output power sensor, I think its called. Good luck!

    Re: Misfires

yea, we moved the coil pack around. The misfire didnt follow it. We did a compression test. Came back fine. GOing to do a leak down test this weekend and also swap out the Ignition power thingys on the airbox.

Do you happen to have 60lb injectors? Those cause misfires naturally.

Why do you say that? Do you run them? I also run them and Seems to missfire under load at high rpms. Changed icu's, plugs and about to buy coils.
What do you guy's do to solve this?

I say that because I have 60# (630cc) injectors and they misfire at idle. I DON'T misfire under high load/boost/rpm, just idle.

Also have 630 siemens. But only missfire on all, p0300 under load high rpms. It's runing fine @ idle tho. I have an apointement with mike for finishing tune this Tuesday. The more i run her the more i believe it's a tuning issue. We shall see. Thank's for your input

    Re: Misfires

Yes, i have the 630s. It only misfires at idle tho now. I changed out my plugs and that fixed the problem of it misfiring under load. Now i just need to figure out why it keeps pulling timing. I am going to try replacing my coils and ICUs

    Re: Misfires

what are you gapping the plugs at? Is it pulling timing on all cylinders or just 5?

    Re: Misfires

maybe the MAF sensor is a good suspect to question.

    Re: Misfires

well if the MAF is fucked up, its not sending the right info to the ecu for it to send the right amount of fuel to the cylinders i.e. air/fuel ratio. just my 2 cents so hopefully someone more experienced can chime in.

    Re: Misfires

hmm, These cars can run without the MAF sensor plugged in correct? Maybe I'll try reseting the ECU and than running the car without the MAF.

    Re: Misfires

i know that these car can run without the MAF but not sure if your idea will work. but who knows? try it out and see if it does. it beats dropping a hundred on a new MAF sensor. good luck!!!

    Re: Misfires

    Detonation.

How much boost are you running and on what kind of fuel? What are you using to tune?

Usually when a car pulls timing it is because it is knocking.

    Re: Misfires

really? Thank you, i never would have thought that detonation would cause a car to pull timing.

The way it is pulling timing is because of something else. If it was truly pulling timing because of detonation, it would do it on the first pull after reseting the ECU. but it doesnt. And it also pulls timing at like 2psi or less, and than i let off and get back on it, and it is fine.

Car is running 22psi and on 93oct.

    Re: Misfires

What block were you measuring to determine the misfires? My car keeps pulling misfire codes but not enough to actually set off the CEL.

I'd love to be able to actually log a drive with my car using my vag-com to see what's going on.

    Thanks.
