    Looking for a B5 S4 Avant in WA/OR

I'm trying to find a good B5 S4 Avant in either WA or OR. I've looked at all the cars on Craigslist, Autotrader or Cars.com. For one reason or another there is something wrong with all of the cars. I've found a low mileage (60K) car down in San Francisco that I'm considering but thought I would try one last time before committing to it.

I'll check it out. Would prefer lower mileage and less power since it's for my wife though... I drove a chipped S4 yesterday and she will get serious tickets with that thing in the slow driving city of Portland;)

I've looked at it. High mileage and seems to have a few issues.

Unfortunately we really want an avant. But yours sounds really low mileage. Should be plenty of folks looking for that!

What kind of mileage when you say low? A local member here name Joe has a B6 S4 avant, I know is not a B5 but he was selling it. Awesome car, you’ll like it. We all Love it!

Well, for a B5 I'm shooting for around 60K, would consider 75K if it was well documented and in good condition. I've seen enough at 60K to think I should be able to eventually find one.

I've been on the fence a bit about the B6/B7 S4's. Definitely more out there. The car is a little bigger so I fit better (I'm 6'5"). Concerned about the mileage of the V8 and it's reliability. I just haven't had much time to research that engine yet and didn't want to jump in. I also know it's less tunable but that probably isn't all that important to me really.

i think Joe's B6 S4 avant mileage is not that high. Is an awesome car. Is hard to find a B5 S4 with lower mileage + good condition, but they are out there

Ya, good luck finding a low mileage B5 S4 avant, esp with that low of miles. I'm sure there are a few out there, but you'll pay alot for them. And you might have to travel out of the PacNW to get it. Something else to consider.

But I'm curious to why you think the 4.2 V8 is any less reliable then the 2.7TT? The 2.7TT is a very pickey motor, either you get a good one, or you get a bad one that requires alot of money. I've been lucky, mine has 119K, and is still on the factory turbos. I've alway thought, they might have less tune-ability, but 4.2 V8 is alot more reliable.

And as a fellow 6ft+ person (i'm 6'6), i find the b5 s4 a little cramped sometimes. When I'm in the car by myself, it's fine. But once I put the family in, wife and two kids, it gets cramped. But i did test drive some B6's and B7's, and found them to have alot more room inside. My sons car seat fits great, doesn't require me to have my seat forward at all... Just my .02.

    Re: Looking for a B5 S4 Avant in WA/OR

I'm definitely willing to travel. Almost bought a B5 in LA a few weeks back but it turned out to not be what I wanted. Only problem is, the Audi's are really only on the coasts, left and right. Not too many in the middle, especially the S4's. It seems as though 60k seems to be reasonable number. If I was really picky I would wait until I found one with 40K like a buddy of mine did.

Regarding the V8, I just don't really know about it. Ultimately I don't really have the time to spend searching and searching to learn what it's quirks are. If there was a list of known issues them Bam! I might start thinking about it. There's definitely more room in the newer ones. The other issue is Audi's ability to lose value soo fast. I'm also a Land Rover fan and you generally try to find them in the low teens so you don't lose as much value. The S4's seem to tend to bottom out around low teens, at least until the miles get really high. That being said, I have a problem paying $20+ for a car thats going to be worth $5-7K less in a year.

    Re: Looking for a B5 S4 Avant in WA/OR

I've checked it out. Was bringing up my trade with intentions on buying it... Until they informed me that it is a CA Lemon Law car. That's why they have the 12K/12mo warranty, it's required by law.

Was really dissapointed as it's a really nice car. I think they'll have trouble selling it at that price. I told the guy I didn't want to insult him with my offer after finding that out. I don't think I could pay more $13K for a car with a title and carfax history like that.
