    Wiring for Apexi TT

    Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    So I got an Apexi Turbo Timer from a friend who no longer needed it, I am reading along the Greddy III TT install, which is pretty straight forward and easy, found here: http://www.audiworld.com/tech/elec98.shtml

    Where it says:
    * RED: Power
    * BLUE: E-brake
    * GREEN: Ignition
    * BLACK: Grounded
    Okay, easy.

    BUT, on the Apexi, it does have Red, Green, Blue, Black, but it also has Gray and White. Finally found an instruction pdf that shows the hardwiring for the Apexi and not just using a harness, and it says:

    RED: 12v+ Constant
    BLACK: 12v- Ground
    GREEN: IG1 output
    BLUE IG2 output
    GREY: Handbrake
    White: 02 Sensor
    Okay, RED I get is the same as RED on the Greddy III, the power, same with the BLACK which is ground. Now the part I get confused is the GREEN AND BLUE. The Greddy DIY says to cut the BLUE becuase it is the handbrake wire and not used, however that is the grey wire on mine. So now I have and extra wire on the Apexi then I do on a Greddy.

    My instinct is telling me to use the IG1 (BLUE) output and treat it like the Ignition on the Greddy (GREEN); but before I make it so my car won't start, I just would like some advice.

    Anyone have any experience?

    *Also, anyone have a wiring diagram for the ECU Harness?

    Re: Wiring for Apexi TT

    I had two extra wires that I did not connect after cutting the blue one. I cant remember what color it was. I would just hook it up per the instructions that you got from audi world. And test it out before you put everything back together. Sorry I could not be of more help.
    What I got from the TT is it is just a device to keep supplying power when the key is not, then it cuts out power after the pre-determined time. So that not as complicated part its letting you arm the car while it is still running is the trick.

    Thanks for the help, did you have a Greddy or the Apexi TT?

    Awesome. So I found the hard-wiring diagram for your Greddy Full Auto TT and it looks very close to mine now, opposed to the Greddy III which has a lot less wiring:

    So now this one also has the 2 wires "ON" and "ACC", GREEN and BLUE. So if you ever have the time to check which wire you did or didn't use, it will tell me what I should use on mine. I appreciate the help.

    Also, with wiring that up did you use the AW DIY I posted above?

    Thanks again.

    I'm not sure I'm reading this right.... If it's an Apexi TT, then use the Apexi wiring diagram. Would you use a service manual for a Chevy Impala on your S4? Same kinda thing.

    Where are you mounting it though? I've got mine sticky taped onto my steering column.

    Also, I'm guessing the person that installed my Apexi TT (was on car when purchased) installed incorrectly or just left wires off, I don't get an o2 reading at all.

    Yeah, but I don't know where to tap the wires, thus I'm using the Greddy DIY on an Audi from Audiworld, and comparing it to the Apexi wiring. I'm not using a Chevy service manual . It's like I'm using an AWE boost gauge kit guide/instruction manual to cross-reference and install the APR boost gauge kit...something like that.

    TO get the 02 reading you need to have it spliced into the ECU wire (in the harness) that reads the 02 sensors, thats why I asked if anyone had the wiring diagram to the ECU harness.

    Is there anyway you could trace the wires from the relay (little black box) and take a couple pictures to show where they are going/splicing into?

    I'm gonna mount mine on the very left waistline trim on the dash.

    I'll see if I can get pictures tomorrow. Don't have the car with me today (finacee has it). I've seen a cup holder mounted screen in a DSM that measured a/f, o2 sensors, egt, Turbo timer, the works on a screen that was about 3".... anyone know if theres such a thing that'll work on the B5's?

    I know there are electronic gauges that you can switch between a/f, boost, oil pressure, etc. But not a big screen.

    I might need you to.

    I installed everything, pretty damn easy actually, BUT when I turn the key, it flickers 0.30 quickly then the TT "turns off." I tried every single different ground under there, as well as getting power from different power poles (75x, 30, 30, 30, etc) as well as different fuses, and all the same outcome.

    Any pictures or input on how yours is wired up, I would really appreciate it.

    I got the same thing when I first tried hooking up a ground. Would turn on for a second then go right back off. I finally hooked up the ground to one of the mounting tabs by the steering column. Worked perfectly after that.

    I'm gonna undue all my crimps and try to run it from the wire coming out of the box to a closer power/ground connection and seeing if that does the trick. Thanks.

    pulled it apart today. You won't be happy with what I found because I was not.... There were WHITE wires that were TAPED to the harness of the TT and those wires just led to hell. I was cold as hell so I didn't want to dig any further. But damn, that pissed me off. Hillybilly shit n all.

    Haha, thats fine. My car is starting to act wierd, my Volts keep jumping from ~9-14 depending on how I'm driving and if the lights are on or anything, which I'm not too comfortable with, so I am going to be taking the TT out and fixing the splices. I don't know if it's from some bad ground and screwing up my wiring, or my battery just coincidently is deciding to take a shit, but it did smell like "new plastic toy" in my car when I was driving. I checked everything and nothing is burnt or charged, so I'm a little confused. Thanks for all your help.

I don't know if it's from some bad ground and screwing up my wiring, or my battery just coincidently is deciding to take a shit, but it did smell like "new plastic toy" in my car when I was driving. I checked everything and nothing is burnt or charged, so I'm a little confused. Thanks for all your help.
    not good. What kind of splices were you doing? The TT is on the bottom of my list for now.... I need to get my dub back in good wiring health.

    Well I took the TT out, and it's still bouncing Volts like it's no buddies business. I'm guessing my battery just coincidentally is on it's way out.

    I used the blue plastic quick splices for 1 splice, then I used crimpers to extend the wires, and that was pretty much it.

    Re: Wiring for Apexi TT

    I think I can help you since I did mines, it works great you can go by this setup here, make sure to ground the e-brake wire Apexi TT wire to a ground trust me it works..The colors on the wires in the car may be different, this came from an 02 GTI. Always check the output of the wires in the car to insure that you make proper connections.

    Apexi TT ~ GREEN WIRE has to connect to a wire which does not drop voltage when the starter is activated.

    Apexi TT~ BLUE WIRE has to connect to Ignition wire ~ when the key is turned to on 12 Volts will be present but not when starter is activated.

    Apexi TT ~ RED WIRE has to connect to constant 12 volts. 12 Volts has to be present at all times.

    Apexi TT ~ BLACK WIRE has to connect to chassis ~ make sure you find a good grounding source.

    I hope this info helps and good luck.

    one more thing I forgot to mention, you can used your car's VAG plug for ignition which only comes on when the ignition is on, I used a tester to check power when ignition is turned on.., used the 75x red wire in fuse panel under the kick panel for constant power, this should get you started. pm if any thing. I'll check my setup for you..

    Okay, so far I have:

    Red Wire: 75x post
    Black: Good Ground
    Grey (Handbrake): Good Ground
    Green: Use VAG tiny blue/black line
    Blue: Need to find a wire, any suggestions?

    And I actually found an o2 write up for the Apexi, but you will need to move the black ground to the ECU ground, but now I can't find it...

    Re: Wiring for Apexi TT

    you can use the blue TT to the vag plug, use a tester, turn the key once just to get ignition power & chk for power then hookup the blue TT wire you'll be good to go.. I didn't hookup my O2 wire as yet, I heard the readings are not the same like a real wideband so I didn't bother to slice my ECU wire!!! lemme know how it goes..

    Re: Wiring for Apexi TT

    I think I'm doing trying to tamper with wiring on a VW. If someone comes a long and can do it, then so be it. But I had a scare today, where the car died on me driving, and I'd rather let someone who knows what they are doing take care of it... which is horrible for me to say because I love doing everything on this car with my own hands... but Volkswagens and electrical wires don't mix nicely too often.

    Bro sorry to hear that you are having problems. I hope someone on here in socal can swing by your place to help you out. If you get everything ready for them they just need to connect a few wires, it should not take them long at all. Hope you get a cool AZ guy to help out.
