    Installing M3 Wing

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I just bought a replica M3 wing for my A4 and wanted to install it this weekend
This weekend is gonna be about 60 degrees F.

    I want to know:
    1. If I decided to use the 3M double sided tape, would it stick without heating up the metal?
    2. Also with that tape, would the wing not be flush to the trunk?

    and then

-Is there anything else I could use instead? (glue?)

    Re: Installing M3 Wing

Id keep it safe with the 3M tape incase you ever want to remove it without having to repaint the trunk. I believe the tape should be somewhat flush. And no, you dont need to heat it up, but clean it up good.

Post some pics when you finish. I've been thinking of getting one of these for awhile.

You got it. I'm going to be working on it all weekend.
I'm also a little worried about how I'm going to paint it evenly since it's gonna be hard to spray behind the slope...

I notice that you are in Budd Lake too! I love the look of those M3 wings but it is a pain in the ass to paint Pearl White.

Is that a bad idea? That's what the guy in the write up uses. Except, he uses actual Audi paint. I was thinking getting the autozone paint that matches our silver cars.

It wont be too bad of an idea considering its a pretty small piece. But the color might be a tad off. You wont have problems with getting the paint to that area as long as you keep some distance when spraying and use multiple thin layers.

    Re: Installing M3 Wing

I was thinking of hanging it from the ceiling on a string so I wouldn't be limited to the angles I could spray. But I've used the duplicolor paint before and I don't really notice a difference. Though I used it on my door blades so it's a little harder to notice there.

Are you sure I'll run into problems with color??

    Re: Installing M3 Wing

Well, all im saying is just that the duplicolor paint isnt the EXACT match for the car. It should work and who knows, it might look normal. But a 8 year old paint job isnt going to look as fresh as the day you got it. I hope that makes sense; not trying to discourage you from using the duplicolor.

I don't know you, I just live in town too. The only other B5 that I see around that looks like the owner cares about his car I see sometimes at that Lube Plus place on 46. I did run across another Pearl White B5 in the Trade Zone and the guy started waving like crazy to me ha ha. Where in Budd Lake are you from? I am off of Smithtown and my Audi is completely stock because I got it recently and havent decided exactly what I want to do to the car yet.

I guess lip spoiler is more appropriate
