    Avic D3 intsall question

    1. Hello guys I just recently had my avic d3 installed at Best buy. I'm going back on Friday because the bluetooth doesn't work. The wiring seems to be right according to the guy and the unit does make the call but I cant here anything when the call has been made. Any suggestions as to what is wrong?

    2. Also, I was researching here about powering the unit w/o ignition. With our old symphony radio when the key is in the off position the radio still works. But with this unit the radio only works when the key is in the on position or when you start the car. The guy said he wired it like that because if he wired the red wire on the constant position then the system will be on every time and it will drain my battery. He said the avic d3 even when its off the screen is still on. If the red wire was wired on the constant position would the unit still be on even if the key wasnt on the ignition? I want the unit to act like the symphony. When its the key is in the off position I can still listen to my radio. With this unit I have to turn the car on or start the car to listen to my radio. It bothers me because at night if I want to listen to the radio without starting my car I cant. And If I turn on the car my drl lights will always on.

    3. I want to know For ppl that have the avic d3 on their audi, when the ignition is in the off position and the key still in the ignition, are you able to still listen to your radio? When the key is out of the ignition will your unit still stay on?

It could actually be your phone not compatible or synching correctly with the bluetooth module.

You can wire a constant 12+ to the switched 12+ on the harness but you must remember to off the unit, otherwise you will drain your battery.

Also, do we not have an ignition position that will allow the usage of electronics without having the engine on? I swear we do, but maybe not.

I don't recall if the screen stays on if the unit is off...that seems backwards. I know that on some units you can have the screen off and unit on. You most likely find that out in the manual or on www.avic411.com

Yah for some reason a demo comes up when you shut the unit off. No we do not have an accessory position on our ignition. With the symphony unit we do because if you turn the ignition to the off position we can still listen to radio. But with this unit it turns off.

My phone is compatible because it found the unit and it can even make a phone call. When I'm connected with the other person, the problem is I cant hear them and they cant hear me. I'm thinking the mic is busted.

    Re: Avic D3 intsall question

I had the exact same problem before with my old phone and bluetooth wireless headsets. The headset would pair up and seem to be working fine all the way up until a call is made (sounds from my phone would come through, like menu clicks, etc), but as soon as i made a phone call, I could not hear them and they could not hear me. I tried several different bluetooth headsets and found that my phone was the problem. On what was probably a related note, my phone was discontinued less than a year after it was released.

If you haven't before, i'd try pairing your phone with a just a wireless headset and see if you get the same no sound in call issue. Just thinking it might save you a lot of heartache in worrying about your install setup if it is this compatibility issue.

I would bet money that they connected the IP bus cable to the wrong port on the BTB200. It needs to go in the one labled "IP Bus Out" and they probably put it in "IP Bus In"

Thanks for the response guys. Any feedback on my second complaint about powering the unit w/o the ignition being on? I hate having to listen to my radio while waiting for my gf to come out from work with my drl lights on.

If you can find something that stays on until the key is removed from the ignition (the way the symphony worked) then you can probably tap the red wire into the fuse box for that accessory. Off hand I can't think of anything that works that way except the radio, and if there is something it probably uses the CAN bus like the symphony did.

Ask the installer to try and meter the key sense continuity. If its + and stays + after starting then your good to go. As long as the key is in the ignition the unit will function.
