Lightbulb 90 CQ issues... running thread

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I've had the CQ for a little bit now, and have become familiar with its issues.

Thought I'd post them up and see what kind of help you guys care to offer.

And as more occur I'll add to the thread so there's a decent reference for others.

    ISSUES:

    - Idle. I've got the idle issue, where (especially cold) the car wants to stall at a stop and/or the idle bounces a bit when not under load. Is this the idle stabilizer valve? The guy who I bought the car from said that the o-ring on his Rabbit went and when it was cold the same thing happened. Could this be it? Or ought I look at the injectors or something else?

    - Electrical:
    - Oil Pressure gauge light
    - Occasionally a brake light goes out
    - Driver's heated seat

    - Passenger mirror has the ghost. If I replace it will it warp/discolour too or is it just the glass in mine at the moment? Also, what models have the same mirror (5000 S, 90, etc.)

    - Cruise control not working.

    - Car nearly ran out of oil once! Doesn't seem to burn, and does not leak.

DONE - Front strut replacement. Anyone have a DIY link handy?

    Thanks guys!!!

I had the idle problem on my 20v, I would first check the ISV. Cleaning it with carb cleaner works well if that turns out to be the problem. The injectors are a much more likely source of trouble. This is very common on the engine, the old Hitachi injectors will fail, causing the car to run on several cylinders. Not a cheap fix (about 250 each, although could be less depending on where you source the parts).

The electrical problems sound like a short somewhere in the system.

for a good amount of info, try checking 20v.org

I live on 20v.org, but hate the site's format. I want a good source of info here on AZ for others. After all, we're already here!

    Next issue:

My car came with Euro bumpers (front and rear) and RS2 projectors. The bulbs are from an HID kit but with stock fitament. What is the bulb type, H4?

    EDIT

    Bulbs are H1/H1

    Next issue:

Seals: There seems to be water coming in after a wash from the rear part of the top of the driver's side window, and at the corner of the dash and a-pillar on the passenger side.

Re: 90 CQ issues... running thread

    Hey guys,

My CQ has an issue with idle where it wanders up and down, sometimes it'll stall out. Problem is typically worst when cold, but is persistent.

After my mechanic disconnected the circled switch he suggested it could be either the:

    - I.A.C. (Idle Air Control)

    or

    - Throttle Pin Switch

    Anyone have any ideas?

    TIA!

Re: 90 CQ issues... running thread

Looks like Red Green attacked my cold air intake.

Can anyone help with a part number or link to a replacement? Just for the hose if possible, the bracket is fine.

This came off as soon as my mechanic George confirmed it's just to deaden intake sound, won't hurt the car. That crap has no place on an Audi.

Went to Home Depot to see if I could fab a homebrew solution out of aluminum dryer venting or random plumbing fixtures (pvc piping or vinyl collars) but no dice. Nothing fits.

    Thanks!

    Update:

With my A4 TKO'd I've been driving the CQ again.

The steering rack is FUBAR? I'm driving with the steering wheel offset 25* to maintain a straight heading. Used the Bentley manual procedure to adjust the steering rack with a friend and while it made the feel tighter that just wore off and didn't solve the pulling to one side issue. What's next? I've replaced the P/S pump & belt and flushed the fluid, had a recent alignment. FWIW, it doesn't wear the tyres uneven.

Other issue is that it jerks/surges/lugs under even part-throttle after I've let out the clutch when the car's cold (IE. non-aggressive driving). Fueling?

Wrong, if you have the "RS2" Projector Euro lights, you have H1s they actually use h1s for both low and high beams.

    Thanks!

That hose isn't to deaden sound, but it is actually to direct air into the intake, the equivalent of a ram air system.

if you have had an alignment and no unusual wear on your tires, and you are still able to achieve full turning (IE it turns all the way to the left with no problems, and all the way to the right...) I would just remove the steering wheel and set it back on the in the correct orientation.
