I thought from another threads people suggested to use a radiator paint so you don't clogs the fins on the core.

lol. yeah, defintely do NOT powdercoat your FMIC (or any other air-to-air exchanger for that matter)... a light coating of some rad spray is probably okay, but anodization is really the best approach when it comes to aluminum rads.

Re: how do i powedercoat a FMIC

you're not looking to powercoat the FMIC. you're looking to annodize it.

will run you $50-100 at any coating place around you.. or if you have no one around you, COAvant can get it done for you in CO.

but i suggest just going to Eastwood paints website and ordering their radiator paint. use light coats. performance will not be hindered and that stuff lasts and is durable. im speaking from personal experience

    Alex,

I used rattle canned "Plastidip" (black) on my pipes and it worked out great. Rocks don't chip them either. (FYI, spacers will be here tomorrow!)

Re: how do i powedercoat a FMIC

Every 6 months or so, i'd put a thin layer of high-heat flat black spray paint on my last car's intercooler.

    $10, worked for me.

Eventually it'd wear down a bit and i'd do a 5-second light spray-over, sounds like this Plastidip stuff might be a good option...

annodize/radiator paint the core AND pipes.. not just the core.

if you're going to do it right the first time, don't use any regular spray paint of plasti-dip

here's the paint i've used. PROMOTES heat disipation, and has lasted about a year now. no dings or chips

That place Jordan knew of has closed down. Hence why my FMIC is still polished. Once I get my car back I plan on getting a local Hartford place to anodize my FMIC black. Shoot me a PM if interested.

FYI: I have two cans (unopened) of eastwood black radiator paint if anyone wants to buy them. I am not planning on using them.

regular krylon paint is fine, youre not applying it with a 3 inch paintbrush with house paint, so its going to be thin.

here is a log from a 70 degree day earlier this year, with my car (pictured above) with a sprayed fmic core and pipes.

you guys think about things way too much.

was that the only log you did?

you need to run it many many times to actually log IAT's.

one run down the track or one WOT log wont tell you shit for how effecient your intercoolers are

coming from someone who's family owns one of the biggest powder coaters in the Ontario, do not powder coat your intercooler. it has the ability to melt the solder that holds the fins to the the unit and would definitely prevent the unit from doing its job well if it doesnt fall appart. the piping on the other hand would take really well to a powder coating job. I just recently did my friends 350hp integra's intercooler pipes gunmetal grey and they are holding up beautifully.

    no. you're not getting it.

warmed up. like you're cruising around at low load around 3k rpms for 10 minutes. i hope so. but that doesn't heatsoak any intercooler. no matter how shitty it is.

im talking do 10 back to back wot runs through 3rd gear(and 4th if your not afraid).

THEN log your IAT's. that will tell you something.

a intercooler's true test is not how low the IAT's are on the first run. but the 10th. 30th 100th......

right. because im sure youre going to run into 30 constant gear pulls...or anyone on this forum. these are real life conditions and normal conditions that people are going to experience. so whats the issue again?

i showed a 1/4 mile run and a random highway gear pull. which is what 98.7% of people will only experience in their car.

    well i don't.

when i really drive my car. it accelerates, slows down, turns, accerlates, turns, slows, etc......

high IAT's in any situation, is not good for anything. period

i understand what youre saying. but understand what im saying, from what i posted, is all that most people should be concerned with. if you track race your car, you probably arent going to go cheap and buy a ebay FMIC anyway.

No offense, but I would never do anything you recommend. Just because your buddy Rob says it works, doesn't mean it is the best option.

It is coming along great. Thank you for inquiring. How is your clown car? I'd rather not drive a car, then be sitting in the drivers seat of your gay-mobile.
