    Headlight Bulbs in S5 & Removal

    Im about to order the euro lights and it does not come with bulbs... so I figured I'd take advantage of the opportunity and order some 8000k bulbs instead of the normal ugly 4300k... Anyone know what type of headlight bulbs I need? D1S/D2S?? Also has anyone removed their headlights?...Is this going to be a pain in the arse or no... I know that on my M5 you had to pull the front bumper off to completely remove the headlight housing due to their being no room underthe hood to get to the bulbs....

    Check out a pic of my M5 with both bulbs and you can clearly see the difference....

    4300k OEM



    8000k (more blue in it)

    Headlights come off pretty easily. There's a trim piece just above the radiator that has to come off, otherwise there's just 4 bolts holding them in.

    US spec headlights use D3S - if you find 8000K or 10000K bulbs in that spec let me know!

    Gotta ask - why do you want bulbs rated at higher than 4300K-5000K? The actual light output is reduced as the K number increases above this level...

    It's a "look" thing.

    BD997, one thing to consider if you go with a diff temp bulb, it will not color match the DRLs as well.

    D3S are almost exactly the same as D1S except that they are mercury free.

    I know for a fact that D1S ballasts will not power D3S bulbs but it may be possible that D3S ballasts will power D1S bulbs.

    Therefore you may be able to find D1S bulbs in the format you would like, as you did in your M5.

    I would 6000k rather than 8000k depending on how much driving you do at night.
