We took 280 to Page Mill, Page Mill to Alpine, Alpine to Pescadero, then out to 1 and the beach. then we went north on 1 to Tunitas Creek, which we took up to Alice's restaurant in La Honda. It was probably one of our better drives through that area, although Tunitas Creek is a bit bumpy and its one lane. Time of day is key though, we left at about 8:30 on Sunday and only ran into 2 or 3 cars the whole time.

I didn't take the allroad, the rear tires are shot and I'm trying to save them for a track day in mid-November. I have taken it along on these drives though and it keeps up quite nicely, definitely feels like more than 250hp

Yeah, thats essentially where it is. Just don't be an idiot and you don't have to worry about attracting attention. Do the speedlimit on the straights and you'll be fine through the turns

    Great photos! LOVE the scenery!

I LOVE that Mercedes. So glad your friend showed up at our meet a few months back.

I was just off 84 last Monday doing some driving. I went up Highway 9, took a right on 35, went to 84, and exited onto Highway 1. We then went over to Santa Cruz via 1. Such a beautiful area.

I definatly want to check out more areas up there.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'm really loving this camera, coming from an old olympus om pc, it's amazing. Judging from the responses I think a meet at Alice's is long overdue. Danny777 tried to get one together a while ago, but unfortunately everyone had to split after lunch. Let's find a weekend when we can all go and get one together.

Yeah that was at Thunderhill right before the repave. He also took it there again the week before the repave and has also taken it to Laguna Seca. Hopefully all three of us will be going to Sear's Point mid-November.

We've all been to instructional track days and know to always drive at 7/10th's and even less on public roads. Also very law abiding, but your right some people just get crazy. What day is best for the majority of you? Preferably from like 8am to 1 or 2.

My all-time favorite backroad in the Bay Area is Bolinas Ridge in Marin. Words have a hard time even describing the beauty of the scenery and contours of the road, so I'll just post some pics and let them do the talking:

This is the view off the West side of the ridge as you drive:

Re: Awesome Bay Area Backroads (Pics)

Driving directions to Bolinas Ridge Rd, CA from Richmond-San Rafael Bridge:

The Google Maps directions seem confusing as hell to me, so I will write my own w/o mileage listings.
    • After getting off the bridge, stay on the freeway which will become Highway 101 North. (At this point, the directions are valid if you are coming from the South bay/Golden Gate Bridge, too)

    • Take the Central San Rafael exit

    • Turn left on 3rd Street and follow it (it will change to 2nd St, then 4th St., a and finally Red Hill Rd., but do not worry) until you come to an awkward-looking intersection.

    • Stay in the lanes going straight thru (do not veer right or turn left) and continue following the road, going thru 2 stop signs, and finally ending up on Center Blvd.

    • Follow Center Blvd. thru a number of stop signs, until you come to a movie theatre and a downtown-like area, which is the town of Fairfax.

    • Turn Left on Bolinas Rd., and then follow that until you get to an intersection in which you can veer right up a hill, go straight/slightly right, or veer left.

    • Veer Left to stay on Bolinas Rd., and then do not turn off this road again for a while - this is where the fun and twisties start

    • The next 20 minutes will take you up a hill, past a golf course, and then back down to what is called the Alpine Reservoir. When you come down to the lake, you will pass over what appears to be a bridge, but it's actually a dam.

    • After you cross that, you will begin to head up another hillside with some crazy hairpins through redwood trees (it's 100% awesome).

    • When you get to the top, you will see some yellow signs, and veer left on to Ridgecrest Rd.

    • Once you make it on to Ridgecrest Dr., you're there! At this point, you have about 10-15 minutes of absolutely amazing roads and views ahead of you; it is, in fact, just what's in the photos.

    • There will be a point where you come to a 3-way intersection while up on top of the Ridge. If you want to go to the top of Mount Tamalpais, go straight/kinda left and there will be a parking lot up there.

    • To get back down the mountain, go right and head back down the hill. Once you come to "Panoramic Highway", veer left on to it. Follow that for about 10 minutes until you come to a 5-way intersection. There are a number of signs, one of which will undoubtedly tell you how to get back to 101. The easiest way is to veer right (do not turn hard right!) on to what is effectively Highway 1. Follow this until you reach yet another stop sign, and continue straight going down the hill. Eventually, you will come to a traffic light intersection w/ a gas station on the corner to the right.

    • Make a right at this intersection, and follow that road until you see Highway 101 ahead of you raised up on an overpass. If you need to go North and back to the Richmond Bridge, follow the road under the freeway and use the on-ramp. If you need to go South, veer right before you go under the freeway and use the on-ramp in front of The Buckeye restaurant.

Hopefully these directions are clear enough! PM me if you have any more questions, or need clarification, and happy driving!

EDIT: I'd even be down to do a drive with one or a few people who come out, and would be happy to lead the way to ensure you get up and down w/o issue. It's been a while since I've been up there.

A few people have suggested doing a drive through Marin, and I'd be up for it, although it is a bit of a drive to get there. Maybe a caravan from the Woodside-San Mateo area... I've been looking for a group to do an Audi photoshoot with too. Not professional stuff, just for fun
