Boost Leak in Oil Dip Stick

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Exactly as title states. I did the pressure test and the only place air leaks is the oil dip stick. I hear it hissing when I'm charging the system and if I open the dip stick it goes pssst and releases all that I've put in.

What the heck is going on?

Thanks in advance for the help,
    Oteni

Re: Boost Leak in Oil Dip Stick

there cant be a "boost" leak in the dipstick....... the dipstick goes into the oil pan/crank case. if you have that much pressure in the crankcase you have other issues...... why are you doing a leak down test in the first place? what are the symptoms?

Sounds like you either didn't block off the PCV system, or you're pressurizing pre-turbo.
Ideally you want to pressurize the system after the turbo, up to the throttle body.

Re: Boost Leak in Oil Dip Stick

I connected my pressure tester to the TIP, the side that was originally connected to the airbox, then proceeded to put ~10 psi in to charge the system..Was that correct? Please let me know, as I'm starting to freak..:(

My symptoms are that I typicall see 13-15 psi with my MTM chip and i can now only get ~7psi max when flooring it and i hear a loud psssssh sound while doing it.

Re: Boost Leak in Oil Dip Stick

You need to cap off the PCV valve on the TIP.

The PCV does not see boost on the intake side so a pressure test can push it open easily. The PCV is designed to let crankcase pressure out of the crankcase and prevent mass amounts of air from going in but again, the PCV is before the turbo so boost isn't part of the scenario when the engine is running.

    You have two options:

Either pull the PCV out of the TIP and stick a bolt or large diameter metal object in the opening and clamp it tight or pull the hose off of the PCV and place a capped off piece of hose over it and clamp that down.

    The PCV is part #10:

I took off the pancake valve an it has a bunch of oil in it.When i blow in it from either side there is no resistance whatsoever...is it not supposed to block out my air?

Oil in the valve is normal since it is a gateway for oily vapors to pass into the intake pipe.

As for the valve's flow, it sounds like the valve is damaged and should be replaced.

Re: Boost Leak in Oil Dip Stick

Hey Guys, I've changed the pancake valve and I found the leak in a hose that goes from underneath the throttle body to the back of the engine. I am now getting ~11 psi, much better than before, but still not full boost.
