    Re: ashtray.... ohhhh gooshh..

If you want to remove the ashtray from the A6, you must remove the radio and climate control first. See pics below.

First, remove the radio head unit using proper radio removal keys and unplugging the wiring harnesses.

Before you set aside the radio head unit, remove the radio keys by pressing down the spring tabs and pulling out the key. I have heard so many stories of stuck radio keys, and they are stuck because the unit has to be out of the dash to be removed properly.

Remove the two bolts in the upper corner of the climate control unit (red circles below). Then, reach in from the top of the unit and push the unit out from behind.

Unplug the multiple wire connectors, and set the unit aside.

There are two tabs on the top hold of the ashtray the secure the assembly. Simply push down on these tabs (red circles below) push unit out from the rear. The ashtray is a very tight fit. Just keep pushing from the rear, and it will eventually free itself.

Disconnect the wiring harness from the underside of the ashtray.

    Re: ashtray.... ohhhh gooshh..

This is an old thread but I wanted to add two things:

    1. Great post - Boston Driver. This helped me out a lot this afternoon.

    2. I found that it was impossible to remove the ashtray on my 6 speed without first removing the shifter surround. I used a plastic putty knife to pop the rear clips off of the surround to get it off. After that, the ash tray slid right out.

Now to figure out why it was unplugged and how to properly route the wires...

    Thanks again!

    Re: ashtray.... ohhhh gooshh..

Isn't that ashtray delete only for the A3....if you look at the shifter trim it goes all the way to the ashtray...I dont think it will fit unless you trim the shifter surrounding.

I would like to find a delete for the A6 but can only find one for the A3. If anyone knows where to purchase one, please let us know, thanks.
