S4 Intake Manifold

Do all b5 s4 have the same intake manfold or do they differ?
am asking this question because i looked at a friends S4 and his intake manifold was different then mine.

I had seen pictures of other builds. All I knew was, it didn't look like mine and mine is a ported 2.7!

I had no idea we used 2 different intake manifolds.

bringing this one back from the dead:

I am putting a new motor in with the newer style intake manifold, but I have my 2000 mani. I'm taking the IM off the new motor anyway to relocate the aux water pump, just trying to decide which manifold to put back on.

anyone have any idea which manifold is better?

supposedly the updated mani flows better but im not so sure if thats true for one reason. the 2000 model mani looks bigger and if the inside is hollow would hold more air. The late model does run a updated PCV system tho which is one reason I was going to convert to the newer still and just port.

The new one is better, not a big difference.. but if every bit counts to you then do it.

If you aren't going to port and polish (this can be done at home you know...) then I would go with whatever will be easiest for you. If there is any power advantage over either one, it certainly is negligible.

I want to say that both are the same, besides the casting. They probably wanted to reduce the material and weight of it, so they got rid of the square box portion. You would need a bigger plenum and bigger runners to make a significant difference.

There were actually 2 AIR/WATER cooler intake manifolds for the B5 RSS4 made but not ever put into production. It was meant to reduce some of the plumbing but yea would have been cool to see more of those made :-)

that is damn interesting...i can understand the want/need to get rid of all that "excess" material from the casting but gut reaction is def. that the older, larger, boxy manifold would perform better than the newer one...
it looks as though the entire old one is sitting on a full plate that connects the "body" from the "legs" and the newer one has a very distinct seperation...true or am i just seeing things?

good info tho and i agree that given the choice and opportuninty to switch, every little bit helps

im just so surprised. for a car so old and with so much potential. yes there are quite a few options available for this car. but there could have been and still could be so many more

i will put up my manifold against any other intake manifold for the b5s4 cause i know i have the best i.m. out there. here is some pics with the stock throttle body next to it. bigger t.b. and bigger plenum is not just whats done. i have a couple other secrets that i wont share.but, google driven innovations intake manifolds for the evo and you will see a test done with 6 other manifolds for the evo and judge for yourself.
