Would you build an engine with 52k mi?

So would you put rods in an engine in pristine condition with ~52kmi, or would you buy one with higher mileage to build and sell the pristine one (for hopefully more than the one you bought)? An older one could easily have whatever repaired/refreshed rather easily and alot of the same gaskets would have to be replaced anyways as preventative maintenance in the 52k-er if I were to build that. The only modification would be rods and new bearings.

I ask because I'm contemplating getting rods, but I feel it's a waste to do this on an engine that I looked so long for (and paid a premium for) and made sure it had good maintenance and low miles.

If you were in my shoes, what would you do?

buy a replacement motor to build and swap in cuts down time. also depents on whats going with the motor ie turbos and what not.

If you have the time though i would just keep the motor you got now . the maintenance will be the same that you'll wanna do on both anyways

Re: Would you build an engine with 52k mi?

just for the sake of not starting a new thread i wanna branch off this question...im always looking for s4's, just a hobbie, i found a nogaro sprt pckg, car is giac chipped, awe exhaust, piggies, full suspension, and looks VERY clean, and believe me im super stingy when it comes to the condition of a car..guy said the t belt was dun, and the car just passed inspection as well as the ko3's he claims spool good..however its a cosmetic theft title, all parts were replaced from factory and it has 140k..he sent me numerous detailed pics and the car absolutely checks in and out..guy wants 7grand..so my question is..is it worth it? is it worth throwin new ko3's in? or would i go str8 to a bottom end rebuild? then maybe stage 3? i honestly think i cud even take advantage of the "obo"..i only assume interest in the car because i have a 99gsx im selling and a 99 a4 as my daily..but shit i might get 6grand for the eclipse by the weekend so y not? just need sum input

Yeah, just start a new thread asking about buying the car cause that doesn't really have anything to do with building a low mileage motor

Not really too incredibly worried about time because I could have another car to drive while it's down, but of course I do want it done asap. I'm not worried about it taking an extra 2 weeks or whatever to install rods and balance.

For turbos, it'd be either RS6's or GT's, and I'd probably run a slightly lower comp HG if I go GT's.

If I build this motor I just kinda feel like I wasted money and that someone who is not going to open the motor could getter better use of the previous maintenance and condition. IDK

building a side motor is always better IMO, because you can swap it over

I think it all comes down to how easily you can sell your 52k mile motor. If its going to take months to sell it might not be worth it.
