Quick Custom Exhaust Question (Sound clip added of how it sounds now)

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I'm getting a 3" pipe put in instead of the 2.5" pipe from the test pipe(also 3") to the resonator. I want my exhaust a little louder, so should I take out the resonator or will 3" to resonator to two 2.25's give me a little more noise?

    Thanks

Yeah I got that part, but I'm just wondering if going from 2.5" to 3" will make it much louder or if I should delete the res.

If your going to run 3" to 2.5" splits, I would definitely run a center muffler or resonator. Without it, its loud as hell. Thats what I have right now!

    Re: Quick Custom Exhaust Question

Is it bad on the highway Shawn? Because around where I live, it's hard to find people that are into modding there cars so here's what I'm looking for..

A few cars are lined up at a stop light in the right lane. The left lane is open and I'm about 50 yards from the intersection. The light turns green and I nail it. The cars in the right lane are about halfway through the intersection as I fly by them. I want them to go, "Whoa, WTF was that?!?!"

We have a converted Milltek that is now 3" from the 3" DP to the split in the back on a B6. Wont know how loud it is till the 2 liter build and tune are done.

dude what u really need is a shorter no more than 12" bullet style resonator, and split it to 2.5" not 2.25"

Would it really help that much by going 2.5" instead of 2.25" after the split?

    Re: Quick Custom Exhaust Question

After the split it won't make much difference since the area of 2x2.25 is still more than 3" or 2.5", but it will be louder. I plan on getting a 2.5 dp->1in-2out flow-through->dual 2.25 to magnaflows. My tp is 2.5" and it will still flows for more hp than my elim is capable of, and it seems that most ppl with 3" complain about it being too loud or droning.

    Re: Quick Custom Exhaust Question

Yes its annoying as hell on the highway with the windows up. Gives me a headache. I will be adding a 3" center muffler as soon as I get a chance.

Something else to consider, we did another B6 on stock turbo a month or so ago with the same setup as mine except 2.25" splits. It was much more subtle than mine is because of the turbo. The big ass free flowing turbo changes the tone a HUGE amount!

    Re: Quick Custom Exhaust Question

I've got the ATP 3" TP then 2.5" all the way back, split into 2 2.5" to the rear mufflers. Nice tone, not too too loud. But when I open the cut-out is when it makes a lot of noise

So you guys think just completing the 3" DP to the center muffler will make a difference in the tone?

I dont think it is any louder than my exhaust was before when I had the Neuspeed exhaust untouched to having the 3" from turbo to the split in the back (what is left of the Neuspeed). It sounds different but not louder.

Your exhaust was just so quiet since you had the extra muffler on yours with the FWD version of the Neuspeed

And for what it's worth I put in a 18" resonator on my Neuspeed exhaust before getting the 3" piping replacing the front half of the exhaust and it didnt make the exhaust any quiter at all. And putting in a down pipe/test pipe in place of the cat makes the exhaust alot louder.

Like Shawn said, 3" to 2.5" is way loud, with tons of drone. That's what I run and wish I'd went dual 2.25". If you insist on dual 2.5", make sure to run some quality offset inlet, center outlet mufflers in the rear, it should help.

Honestly why even bother with a 3" exhaust with a gtrs/71r? It isnt flowing enough.

Having some 3" pipe assists with spooling up.

Dont forget the eliminator turbos have a tiny ass K03 flange exhaust housing 3" piping isnt gonna do any good when you are feeding the turbo through a hole the size of a hot dog! 3" in my opinion for an eliminator is way overkill.

i got 3" all the way from the turbo to a Y split, 2.25 with 1 resonator on each muffler. It is loud as fuck. Perfect for me, some passangers things its a bit too loud.. but the sound you get when you hit high boost is just the best :)
