By no means am I running too much under the hood, actually all I've got added to the engine that gives real performance is a GIAC chip. So would adding on some exhaust tips just be really cheesy for an A4 like mine or do ya'll think it adds a bit of flash?

haha I know they add literally nothing but a minor appearance difference. Just a question of opinion, so I'd like to know your opinions! :D

I don't think they're cheesy. Just for looks, right? Why not

I'd never do it, because I'd never think about getting exhaust tips, probably never will. I'm all about performance first, than looks.. so by the time it comes to looks, I usually already have nice tips, that came with a full exhaust.

It's your car, if you like them, go for it. My opinion is to just spend (save) some money to go with a custom or prefabbed exhaust system.

totally agree, if I had the money I'd be all over that. Thing is I'm in college so money I save usually goes towards...well the list grows...but I'm kinda just sick of the stock look so I was thinking of some tips for now

Re: Are exhaust tips just cheesy?

Trotter715 (My friend from home) picked them up off ebay. They claimed to be a perfect fit for audis and they really do look good in person. He didn't take a picture of an angle above the tips but they are polished and seem to be pretty good quality. I'll try finding a link....

He only paid about $35 for them.

I'd do the same if I didn't plan to get a new muffler.

    Edit:

    Ebay

I found these but they aren't the ones he has. I guess he got lucky. Keep looking.

Re: Are exhaust tips just cheesy?

Really, why not just get a full exhuast set up or just leave them the way they are? It is a $35 waste if it is not going to do anything. As stated before, I would save up for a full exhaust set up. They can be found used for cheap. Just have to be patient and search ads. I got a full exhuast setup that would have costed $1500 new for a moderately good price (moderate meaning half).

My set up is rather pricey, but you can find Borlas or custom Magnaflows that people pieced together being sold for maybe $250 or even less. I would just save up and do it right.

Re: Are exhaust tips just cheesy?

I see nothing wrong with getting tips. Its not like you are in a situation where you are flaunting something you dont have. I could understand it being like that if you were just getting a muffler. Get tips man, they look good without the noise.

Re: Are exhaust tips just cheesy?

I have some tips on... gives the rear end some more appeal IMO. I don't necessarily have the money or enjoy the added noise of most exhausts. The only tips I don't approve of are the resonated ones that add noise... those are cheesy.

Re: Are exhaust tips just cheesy?

    Resonated tips actually reduce noise.

I had them on my v8 914, and they made a huge difference in noise levels.

Megaphone tips (found on many old porsche race cars) are louder than straight pipes on the other hand...

Re: Are exhaust tips just cheesy?

the stock muffler looks like hell.. i cant blame you for spending 40 bucks to make them look better. Not everyone can afford a full exhaust system at any time. i dont think theres anything wrong with what your doing, just dont be the kind of person that needs to be told that "exhaust tips dont add hp"
"slow is smooth and smooth is fast"

It's better than the pathetic stock tips. I had it 5 years ago until I had enough money to save for the real thing.

Re: Are exhaust tips just cheesy?

IMO just getting tips on a stock muffler is kinda wack. It looks alright yea but u can still see that ugly muffler underneath AND you wont hear any difference in sound. Getting a muffler and tips is just cutting it i think. It doesnt give you any performance really but does sound nice and looks a lot nicer then just tips, and for a good price.

I would save a little more money and just get a muffler. If you dont want anything super loud like what i have, then try and find a longer or bigger muffler then a regular magnaflow, magnaflow mufflers will be pretty loud on a v6, idk about the turbo. My "bullet" muffler is 2 inches longer then the normal mufffler but a little shorter in depth but is significantly quiter then a normal muffler but sounds good IMO. Same with my friends opinions. They said they like it and to not even bother with a res untill later down the road. BTW its loud enough to turn heads, iv been getting a lot more looks from people.

I paid $225 installed for this muffler with really nice double walled magnaflow tips which were $70 themselves. I am pleased with my purchase.

all the haters need to chillll. Puttin tips is just to make the car look a little nicer rather than havin the rusted garbage in the back. it definitely looks a little bit better and nicer. People know my exhaust is stock and i still get compliments on the tips. its worth it, especially when your broke!!!
