    Inspection=$33 Parts/Labor=$800 Owning an Audi=priceless..NO! f**k

    So I've been on this forum for some time now. I know, that owning an Audi comes with its drawbacks. Today I experienced it first hand. I went in for an inspection and they did not give it to me. I need to replace the front brake flex hose in order to pass but I also need to replace some other parts too.

    Replace Front Brake Flex Hoses
    Rear Differential Seals (all of them)
    Transmision tail shaft seal
    Oil cooler hoses

    I have to replace all these things. I am not going to pay 600 for labor because the parts are only 200. Now I have not done any of these things before. I know the oil cooler hoses/front brake flex hoses aren't too bad and will tackle them by myself but I am not so confident on the seals.

    Well this was my little rant/vent.

    It's not bad, the trans output seal is the worst of the group.

    It doesn't take much to drop the diff out and pop some seals in, and reinstall. I think I did it lolly gaggin around in under 1.5hrs (school, I was told to waste time).
    Not sure about the manual trans, but the Tip's you can pull the flange and the rear cover easily so you can remove the seal and install the new one out of the car.

    Come to think of it, the rear trans housing is what holds the center diff in, it's not hard to remove either, but I'm positive it's 10X easier to replace that seal on the man-trans as opposed to the Tip's

    Man they sound anal about their inspection (assuming it's the State car inspection. )

    They are only anal about the flex hose because of liability. Everything else they recommend changing.

    I am going on a 600 mile trip this coming weekend. Would I be ok with going even though I have these problems? (Keep in mind that I will be fixing the brake flex hose tomorrow.)

    Dude, I rolled with leaking axle seals for atleast 8K, as long as the fluid is full when you leave (assuming the seals are still in existence) you won't loose that much fluid in that amount of time.

    I paid $3,600 last month to have the car pass inspection at Audi. Gogo being away at college with nothing more than a Letherman.

    you don't have to change the differential seals. mine have leaked a tiny bit for years. last year i drained and re-filled the diff because i was scared there wouldn't be any oil left in there. There was hardly any missing from it. Most audi rear diffs leak a tiny bit
