    Calling all BT TIP drivers

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Getting to be that time....I was just about to go get a GIAC k04 done and then the more I searched on here the more I'm thinking about taking a leap of faith. How many of you TIP guys that have gone with a BT are still running smoothly? Last I checked it costs about $1700 for Level 10 to upgrade the stock TIP tranny. So basicaly just looking for some updates. Who went with Level 10 and who stayed stock?

    Thanks

    PS:
Yes, I've spent this entire weekend pretty much living of the search tool trying to read every thread on this topic I can, but I'm craving more knowledge.

It's been about one year now and absolutely no problems with the car, turbo, engine and tranny. If your go GTRS you don't need to upgrade the tranny. Just don't do any brake launches or neutral drops and your tranny will be fine.

OMG I cringe at thinking people would actually do a neutral drop. I remember a few years ago when fast and the furious came out and all those car meets sprung up. All the guys with autos would rev up and drop it into drive It hurt me on the inside. I too am curious as I had mentioned in an other post to know about the tranny and its capabilites. Didnt buy the car to go super fast but it would be cool to have a BT either way. I started looking into the Level 10 information too, hopefully you can steer away from dropping that money which according to the above post you can.

You're not the only one. I'm getting really anxious, but I've decided to cool down by upgrading things first in front of the turbo (FMIC ordered, deciding on TIP), followed by aft of it (HFC, exhaust) and then get to the turbo itself (manifold, GTRS, software, etc.). I figure if anything should change along the way, at least I've enjoyed the extra parts before I got to the turbo itself.

But yeah, post up BT drivers. I'm curious about how the 0-60 time changed. I realize there is less torque down low than with a K03, but perhaps the HP is similar and gets you moving just as well but without the torque rush?

    Cheers,

I've heard iffy things about Level 10. Search around as there are a few alternative companies I have heard stuff about.

That's encouraging to hear. I noticed in your sig you have the eliminator. To my knowledge that just means your car keeps the stock mannifold and doesn't need the ATP one that comes in the regular GTRS kit for eurocode. I would assume it's slightly more restrictive, meaning it probably isn't as harsh on the tranny as the full on GTRS?

Still on the stock mani and so far no cracks or anything. It is more restrictive than the ATP mani which I eventually plan to upgrade to once the stock mani goes. I think that what's in my sig is the bare minimum for a GTRS powered tip DD. The cat is still stock as well which I think I will be upgrading to a HFC or TP once I have some time. Go for the GTRS and don't look back. It's basically a bolt on upgrade with the exception of making your own oil and coolant lines.

How much of a power upgrade / 0-60 upgrade are you seeing with the GTRS and a TIP?

What he meant was that you'd have to cut the hoses to size and fit the ends with the barb fittings which all comes with the kit.

Re: Calling all BT TIP drivers

So, I think I'm going to go with this kit from Eurocode...

ATP GT71R kit with EuroCode/REVO Software THE COMPLETE SOLUTION

Do you think they would sell it without the testpipe? I don't really want one of those as I'm ordering a Milltek downpipe back exhaust with a HFC. I also will be going with an ER competition FMIC and the Neuspeed turbo intake hose that they recommend for the turbo.

    Any opinions/comments are welcome.

See, I've heard too many different stories about Eurocode, and it has made me quite weary about them. I just ordered all my stuff, neuspeed turbo inlet pipe, ER FMIC Sport, GTRS, 550 injectors, everythign from 1552 (a4ringedone8t). Maybe you should consult him for soem advice. It took me a while to decide apon going BT on the tiptronic, but there has been a growing population of bt tiptronic cars on b5 and b6 platforms. Its a risk for sure, but i have faith itll all work out.

Weary about Eurocode. I will vouge for them a 110% along with several others on here. They have gone head over heels for me the last seven months I've been in Iraq. Everything from personally picking my car up from the dealership, dealing with all the questions I've had, sending me pictures through email along with updates of the progress of my BT setup, and a lot of other stuff. They have aloud me to come back to the states in about a week and pick up an A4 that is now the way it SHOULD have come from the factory. Don't get me wron though, the owner of 1552 is on these forums a lot with a wealth of knowledge and a great guy. It's a matter of personal preference. That and Eurocode is pretty local to me which was also a deciding factor.

Thats good, I don't mean to ripp on eurocode, but I've been on here for quite some time, and had a few friends order from them with not such great experiences. I'm sure it goes both ways. But i'm glad you guys had a good experience with them.

I understand where you're coming from and I've read threads about them good and bad. For me they were the best option. Again, personal preference.

Yea, it helps that you are actually in the same state where you can talk to him and ask for advice. I'm all the way in no where land, with 0 support, and phone is the only way to get a hold of them...which isn't always a very reliable form of communcation, at least to get a hold of someone.

Well, that's fine. I'm just using them as a source for parts. I'm having a local Revo tuner do my GT71R install, and according to them they work with Eurocode all the time, so I'm not too worried. Now I just need to make the cost of this project seem like a worthwhile endeavor.

That does mean in the straight line, right?

If so, its funny you say that. I've been around drag racing since I had my license @ 16 (36 now) and every REAL performer that I've owned that had consistant 60' and reaction times was, you guessed it...an automatic transmision.

I've had so many of the auto vs. manual discussions it makes me dizzy.
Although fun to drive, manual tranny cars are sometime a bit too finicky to launch in the 1/4. AutoX, manual trans 100% no doubt.
I've had a couple fast, 4 and 5 speed cars (Mustang, RX-7), so I speak from some experience. My A4 is a TIP, but that was only so my wife could drive it, too. I might have bought a M6, but overall am glad I have the tiptronic. (except for the gear hunting that come with the K03FX)
I'll be going GTRS in 2009, so this is a good thread to subscribe to

Alright, let's compile a list of BT TIP drivers and perspective BT TIP drivers and start this group on here. I think we need to make a ruckus and shake things up a bit with the BAT guys.

Also, someone think of a wicked cool name for the group. We will vote for the winner via poll in a new thread once we get some nominations.

as for a name for the group: anyone with a Big Ass Tiptronic Turbo knows their car will fly like a BATT outta Hell...

I'm considering switching from apr 1+ to revo stg 2, just so that I can get that gtrs. You guys make it so hard to save money. I want my tip to rip. Guess I'm going to have to pull the trigger.

no reason to switch to revo until you are ready to go stage 3 with a GTRS. Revo stage 2 is the same as APR stage 1+, so wait until you have your GTRS and then just flash it once to stage 3.
