    Adding Amp+subs

So I got two 12's and an Amp for free from my buddy, and now i need to figure out what i need to do to get it hooked up. What special parts will i need to connect it to a BOSE system. I want to keep the stock head unit (for now) and speakers and run this system. I've heard i need a high to low converter, but besides that, is there any other part i should pick up?

Any good DIY's ? I searched a few but no good ones, and nothing that helped.

    Re: Adding Amp+subs

www.a4mods.com for a good DIY on amp install.. you will need rca's power wire ground wire and remote wire.. and also a fuse holder right off the batter (around 1 ft off the battery terminal) a pretty good hi-lo converter is a PACPART (google search them) part number SNI35.. that will give you RCA outputs.. and i highly suggest to get a remote bass knob.. that will go inline with your RCA's this will allow you to control and tune the bass since our factory set up does not have sub control.. the bass knob is pacpart # PACLC1. other than that its a pretty basic amp install nothing too special

keeping the stock speakers and head unit too? free sub and amps? and i fail for buying hid's on ebay that work?

are you some kind of idiot? how old are you?

search, it's not a difficult concept installing some subs. A chinese man from ebay can probably do it without having to post a thread.

    Re: Adding Amp+subs

I only opened this thread cause I knew Burner799 would say what he said.

On the actual subject though...All you really need is the converter unless by some chance the amp you have is decent and has hi/lo inputs. I would watch out for those converters though. They are probably made in China. How dare you put that in your mighty A4?

    Re: Adding Amp+subs

you need the brown green and white wires on the harness for the stock amp in the trunk. solder your RCA's to these. brown is a shared ground the other two are R&L pos. they are the thinest gauge wires in the bundle.

    Re: Adding Amp+subs

I think the bose has amps for each speaker near or on them which means you have to run new lines for everything... this is how bose usually operates. Bose also likes to use 2ohm system. I don't think its worth it to do subs/amps to your car... then again i don't think subs are a good idea in any situation the way they are done in car audio.

    Agreed.

But Paying someone to do it is stupid. I installed all my sound stuff just by going off DIY guides i found online with a friend. It all works perfect, it was fun, and in the process i learned something about sound systems. But if you're gonna do it yourself you really do need to just find a DIY guide. I didn't use one specific to my car so half the fun was figuring out what to do with all the wiring and how to take stuff apart and all that. But you can basically go to Best Buy (i know i might get flamed for not going to an audio specialist) and just buy an amp kit for $30. Rockford Fosgate makes one that comes with everything you need. Then just follow the instructions on what wires go to what. Then hooking up the subs and hiding all the wires is easy as pie.

we were talking about some forum drama that started in another thread. we are just giving him a hard time because he said he'd rather drive a hyundai than have anything but the best on his car.

no i have a friend who gets headlights from the manufacturer and sells them so i can get HID's for about $100 a set, so needless to say i already have some. And they work great

But sorry i missed the inside joke lol. i'm on the B6 forums most of the time.

    Re: Adding Amp+subs

^do the un-bose mod (search) if you haven't yet. it will level out your system since you are adding subs. you will bow your stock speakers eventually though (that's why i power my boston acoustics with a 4 channel).

    Re: Adding Amp+subs

err de-bose mod? it lets you reprogram the factory settings for lows, mids, highs for each speaker. You will be able to turn the bass in the stock speakers down so they don't distort as much when you turn them up to match your subs.

    this is what you need:

    Re: Adding Amp+subs

ALL the wires you need to connect can be done at the rear of the car if you have BOSE system (except power.) Ground to trunk ancho/latch things, get remote signal from stock BOSE amp (in driver's side trunk liner), and get the RCA signal using the PAC I-35 converter like someone else suggested before. You run a small length of speaker wire to either rear shelf speaker (i did pass side), this is where the RCA signal will come from. One wire per signal (like reg speaker cable), the other end is spliced to the PAC I35 converter, keep both negs together to one of the speaker wires, and both positives together to the other speaker wire. That simple. (obviously plug RCAs into converter and amp).
