Question Those that did the CC Mod...(UPDATE w/Pics!)

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Is there a way to fill or cover the holes from where the tabs were so they're not as noticeable?

    UPDATE...
Installed them today, just updating the thread with a couple quick pics of them on. Cars dirty, but oh well...

Re: Those that did the CC Mod...

yeah clear silicone is the best but even then its not perfect. I did it with a small dremel bit and one side is perfect and the other side has some black plastic. You can use chrome paint and toothpick it onto the black sides of the hole and that will probably clear it up as well. I didnt have a chance to try that on mine.

Yeah there's not much you can really do, but hope that the holes aren't that noticeable from distance lol

Yea, I didn't use the drill method. I used a soldering iron to make the holes, which was quick and left no shavings. Then a small flat head to quickly just snap off the tabs. Much better and easier than drilling imo, with no risk of drilling into the lens, or chrome which could widen the holes. What took the longest was simply breaking that damn amber insert apart.

I was going to bake them, but my oven bugged out on me. I couldn't read the digital display to set the appropriate temperature, so I didn't risk it.

Re: Those that did the CC Mod...

I mangled mine by using a drill.

Using a soldering iron to melt holes sounds like a great idea. With really good ventilation of course

.. i used clear silicon as well.

Re: Those that did the CC Mod...(UPDATE w/Pics!)

Is there any really good write ups for step by step process of the CC mod? I have seen a few on Audiworld but nothing that is extensive. I am kinda on the fence.. I just see me fubaring them and having to buy new ones :(

Wow! What a huge difference. Congrats! I'm riding the fence on doing it to my black S4.

If I do, I'll definitely use the soldering gun method.

Did you take any photos of where you went into the back of the lights' housings?

Just make sure you don't use those clearvision bulbs on your e-codes, if you upgrade.

Nope, sorry, I didn't, but I just made the holes in the exact same place as shown in the AW writeup...

DIY stealth bulbs. Just took the regular amber bulbs in there, and put a light coat of chrome spray paint over it

Everytime I see a casa S4 I think to my self, "If those cars looked any better they wouldn't be able to sell them anymore for fear of the other colors, losing their self esteem" Good job on the diy, my holes are more noticable than those, however anyone who doesn't own an S4 couldn't tell the difference anyways

Wait, so does using a soldering iron not create the same black holes as drilling? I've got both a dremel and iron, which to use?

It creates the same black holes in the back of the headlight housing, except there won't be and shavings to deal with inside the housing. Also, since you'd be using a flat head to break apart the tabs, you won't have to worry about making the holes that are visible (the tab holes) any larger. Which is a problem when you using a drill to do that if you're not careful, you can easily drill into the chrome. Possibly drilling into the lens is also avoided with this method.
