    Hyper sensitive throttle?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Is anyone else's throttle response unusually "twitchy", especially in gears 1-2-3? During slow acceleration and even during normal to moderate acceleration the throttle is hyper sensitive to even the tiniest inputs. The result is that sometimes it causes the car to jerk noticeably back and forth. Example: I roll over speed bumps slowly, in first gear. More than once after clearing the bump, as I begin to accelerate away, the car has launched into a violent surge back and forth and I have to depress the clutch to regain control.

It's not just slow acceleration, either. Pulling away quickly from a light last night, I went over a bumpy patch of road while going from 2nd to 3rd. The undulations of the road surface were enough to cause my foot to move back and forth while on the throttle. Just this super slight, subtle movement was enough to throw it all off. The car lurched forward and back. The kicker is that the loud exhaust give it all away. Bystanders no doubt "hear" the car bucking as I try to smooth things over at the wheel. Embarrassing and annoying.

Couple of things to note: I don't remember the car doing this before installing the aftermarket exhaust. I also installed the ECS snub mount in the hopes that would help but that did NOTHING. Anyone have insight, advice or similar problem with their car? Many thanks....

    Re: Hyper sensitive throttle?

I don't have a problem with any other gear but 1st and it is the same as you describe it.
At the slightest touch of the pedal the car jumps forward and easing of the throttle does the opposite just as harsh. Other gears are fine for me and as far as I remember it's always been like this.

    Re: Hyper sensitive throttle?

Interesting. My 6 mt doesn't do this, and I doubt the exhaust did anything. I thought the snub was to make shifting smoother, but I doubt it's causing this. How many miles on the car, is it due for service/maintenance? Interesting b/c those who install chips say the throttle response gets even more sensitive meaning less gas pedal input = quicker throttle body opening. Could be bad shot of gas, so maybe put drive it down in gas and fill up with some real good gas?

I have the same problem. I also find my clutch catches lower sometimes and I almost stall. I did hear that if you chip the car it helps with the throttle response?

I've been meaning to set APR to stock program so I'll do that and see what difference it makes with throttle. Only thing I remember that was different is that shifts were smoother with APR and RPM drop quicker while shifting.

    Re: Hyper sensitive throttle?

Is this in S mode or when in normal? S will definitely make the throttle response much more aggressive which contributes to the jerkiness condition. I have experienced the same thing exactly as you describe it, only in 1st gear though. I don't believe it is a problem though, you just have to be extremely smooth when applying the throttle and anticipate bad road conditions.

No S Mode on my car. Wish it did, though, because that would mean I have an RS4. This is a B6.

The first 1/3 of the way down, the throttle is just so sensitive to any input. Makes it very difficult to drive smoothly while going slow. Thought the snub mount upgrade would help but no dice. Not to turn this into a B5 vs. B6 pissing contest but it is such a stark difference from my B5. Even with GIAC software, that car was smooth as silk. Never had a problem. The B6 clutch/throttle leaves alot to be desired, especially considering it's a $50k car.

throttle by wire on the b6 blows. this time i got a good one but my last car was crapola, would hesitate in the 1st to 2nd gear shift so bad... btw, S mode is available on the S4 6AT, not the 6MT though.

I was going to say, I have the S mode, but have a tiptronic. When in that mode, for sure it is really tough to feather the gas pedal so that the car doesn't jump.

Agreed, I have had the 6mt and the 6at (currently) and I have to say thanks to S-Mode, it's just as fun to drive to my surprise (bought it because it was a great deal but ended up really liking it). I have had 22 manual cars and only 4 automatics (usually hate them), this one isn't bad thanks also to being a 6 speed.
