    Difference between B6 and TT

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey

    I bought a timing belt kit from ECS for my 2002 B6 1.8T A4.
However I am going to sell it soon and buying a 2001 TT, I am
now wondering if the timing kit is useable on TT or not?

    Thanks!!

2002 is tricky because of the vin split, early and late models.

Oh duh.... I didnt see you posted the model years.

I believe the tensioners are different...so it most likely would work. That one part I would chance

Re: Difference between B6 and TT

The serpentine belt won't fit (B6 is one and the TT is two belts). The thermostat will not fit (TT uses the B5 thermostat which is significantly different than the B6).

I am pretty sure the tb belt, idler pulley, tensioner and water pump will fit. I used the TB kit off my 2002 A4 on my built 2.0L AMU motor (out of a 2001 TT225). I even used the TT's crank TB pulley but my A4's harmonic balancer since the A4's serpentine system is different.

What did they change with the VIN split? Every B6 TB kit I've seen and installed has been relatively the same parts with no real difference I could visually see. Guess it all depends on what is included in the kit.

    Justin. How's the car doing?

EDIT: Just looked at ECS' website. Those guys are a ball of laughs. The 'standard kit' for the TT225 claims to have OE parts made in Japan. What they call the 'ultimate kit' for the B6 A4 claims to have OE parts made in Germany. Same photos for both vehicles. Haha. Having said that, the basic parts are the same between the two cars (timing belt, gas shock tensioner, idler pulley, water pump). They also claim the VIN split on the B6 A4 is the mid-year 2004. I still don't know what was done to the TB system in order to break it out via VIN split in 2004. Perhaps someone can chime in on that.

So, its one of the more complete packages that includes more than just the TB. I'd sell it. The majority of the items in that won't carry over to the TT. Either that or sell it w/ your car.

Why don't you return it to ECS for a 15% restocking fee and by the TT TB kit?
