1.8t Thermal R&D exhaust?

i'm in the market for a new exhaust, and after seeing what EuroCode had to offer, the Thermal exhaust appealed to me the most, first by seeing the price, and second that it offered the right one for my USP.

I tried searching the forums for any info/pics/ or video's about this exhaust...but it was very minimal. Youtube only has one video of it, which isn't the greatest, but it got me more curious about this exhaust.

I am interested in getting the race version, depending on how loud it is...but i would like to recieve some feedback on both versions as far as performance gains compared to others etc.

I currently have the APR Stage 1+ and some other engine goodies, and its dying for an exhaust...it's already tuned for a test pipe...and i noticed that Thermal offer's a 2.5" downpipe, that goes into a 3" which then splits off into 2 2 1/4" for the dual out mufflers, but i would like to replace the downpipe with a 3" test pipe.

....hopefully i get some good feedback on this!

I got the Thermal Race R&D for my USP, what they sent me was a Thermal exhaust with DeCorsa tips, which are the adjustable ones. The quality was definitely top notch.
Without the testpipe, I thought the system was actually really quiet for my taste with a nice deep tone, I actually wanted louder. When you add a tespipe then its a different story, it will be deeper and a lot louder but still retaining a great deep sound.
As for performance with your setup you should feel a difference but nothing crazy, your car will definitely breathe better. The shipping was great I actually got mine in 5 days.
Do it, you will not be disappointed its one of the best exhausts for our cars!

Yes, Thermal is the same as AWE and also the same as DeCorsa. The only thing that changes is the logo on the tips. I believe they are all made by the same manufacturer.

yea, i read that a while back and didnt really believe it. my friend has a awe exhaust on his car i helped him install it and they really look identical. i called eurocode when i first got my thermal and they told me they are all made by thermal, so i don't know what to believe!

send a PM to AZ member DenverNoob...his Thermal system sounds absolutely incredible in person. i've been downtown and heard Ted's car coming from a few blocks away, only to nearly pee my pants when he flew by! it's such a defined exhaust note. i think he has a couple pretty sick videos, so just ask.

As Tom said in that thread, in the past our exhausts did use some components from Thermal, i.e. mufflers and hangers. We no longer use Thermal products in these systems.

That explains the visual similarities of the two systems that ppcastel mentioned.

Our B6 A4 exhausts are designed and assembled by our In House Fabrication Department. We use some components from subcontractors, such as Thermal in the past, but the final assembly takes place here in beautiful Willow Grove, PA.

Our Fabrication Department started the latest production run of these exhausts earlier today.

I have Thermal R&D Race. Has a awsome sound at higher speeds under load i would say more of a real meatty sound.Awsome flyby sound. As well as low speeds or letting the RPMS drop off like 3.5-2 RPM's real good low tone ,mine drowns out people in the back seat, i have had that compaint before. usually from sissy girls or girlfriends friends but most of my friends like it, plus its nice to not hear people sometimes haha.

what kind of gains can i expect? i already have the Stage 1+ and TIP, im sure it will be much better without the factory exhaust, i just want to know how much better this exhaust will do me, especially with a 3" test pipe

i would def. like to hear it. It will be about another month till i have the money for it. Where did you get ur exhaust put on? and did you have a test pipe put on?

don't know about the non-race version, i think its just the race exhaust with resonator on it. again, i have the race version but mine doesn't drone bad, i never notice it anyway, only my wife and her daughter complain about it once and awhile but i hear more complains about the fast acceleration / slow downs that = sick stomachs..... but it's my car, right? :P

it's a really nice exhaust, get the race version and if you find it's to loud take it to a local shop and have them weld a resonator on it.

Gotcha, thanks. I doubt I'll notice it either since I've always got the stereo cranked up. No wife and daughter to worry about either. ;-] Good call... I never really considered buying the Race and toning it down with a resonator afterwards... if necessary of course.

I wonder why they made their downpipe a 2.5" to go back to a 3"? is it because not all cars can fit the 3" downpipe?

^^i have an '04 moro blue USP! haha, they're definitely still pretty rare. very hard to find others with the same setup and color (other than two or three AZ members)
