Anyone switch from 2.0T to S4?

So I went from an 04 R32 (which I loved) to the A4 2.0T (quattro, S-line). After having it for a year or so, I'm just a bit bored with it. Yes it's a nice car and the interior and looks are great. It just doesn't put a smile on my face like the R did. I found a S4 (07 like my A4 and very reasonably priced with 10k miles). I'm trying to decide if I should switch to something else. The S4 has a great sound, but bad gas mileage. It has the recaro seats. I don't really like the A4 seats. I'm not a big guy so I tend to slide around corners.

I know many people here chip their cars but doesn't it "transform" it that much? I've been looking at getting Revo at a local shop. Their site says increase hp up to 255. Is that accurate? I've heard you can get 0-60 times around 6 secs.

I am also just considering getting back into a new R32 although i do like having a 4 door but I would like the DSG.

Would any of you switch to an S4 if you could?

so many times this issue comes up...the s4 has the v8 growl...recaros...and more than enough power for the average person out of the box as a dd.

for the record i got about 15mpg in my a4...so gas mileage seems to be a moot point for these big heavy german machines. if there is a difference, it's like 75 miles per tank anyway, so what, $5-$10 difference per tank...basically worthless justification for going one way or the other.

I almost ended up going with the S4, but being in college, it just wouldn't have been a smart choice. I went with the 2.0T because it is easy to mod, I won't have to worry about a car payment, and honestly if you weren't a car guy, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

Sure, my last car was a lot faster, but the Audi has a much better interior and the Quattro.

If you're not worried about the gas and could afford to make the move in a market like this, I'd say go for it. You only live once.

I plan on chipping my car, intake, and exhaust in the near future. After that, I told myself that I'm not going to do too much more. In college, there are so many more important things to spend my money on.

Re: Anyone switch from 2.0T to S4?

I had a G35 coupe prior to the A4 and with out the chip it did not excite me. Turbo would reach 11psi or what ever stock is and felt pretty fast but nowhere near the G35 which was like 5.5-6sec 0-60. So I got it chipped and a couple extra mods :)... It really changes the car, especially if you get suspension at the same time. I almost would recommend getting the chip for 600-700 bucks before you switch. Maybe you could get a free trial? I mean it takes 20-30 minutes, maybe ask a local tuner to try it out?

All and all it makes the car way more exicting, not that G35 is as fast as S4 but the chip just added that fun factor, that I feel you/I are/was missing:) Now instead pushing on the gas and saying weeee, it is more like wow..

Just my two cents. Hope it helps.

Re: Anyone switch from 2.0T to S4?

I had a revo'd R32, then went to A3 3.2, and now a revo'd A4. I just couldn't stand the DSG, it was fun for about a week and then I got bored with it...not even close to as engaging as a MT6. My wagon now feels just as fast as my .:R did, definitely doesn't handle as well, but with the S4 h-sport anti-sway kit it definitely made it way more fun to drive then stock. Software and sways really change this car. It won't be as fast as an S4, but if you can afford the S4 go for it, it's a great car and has wicked seats.

Re: Anyone switch from 2.0T to S4?

Thanks for the input so far...The other concern I have is selling my A4. I don't want to buy this S4 and then have my A4 sitting in my garage for a long time trying to sell it.

I do like MT but the A4 is just not as engaging as the R. Not sure what the difference is. My dad taught me to double-clutch (heel & toe) when I learned to drive and it doesn't seem the same in the A4 as the R.

I just might have to convince the wife to let me get this S4.

Get the STaSIS Turbo kit for your 2.0T, get 30 mpg, school S4's on and off the track in all regards. Lighter, better turn in, better braking, better handling....problem solved. I spent last weekend at infineon taking STaSIS's shop car with their big turbo on it around the track....awesome package and will put a grin on your face ear to ear. S4's were no problem, caymans and lotus.....also a stage 2 B5 S4 as well...only cars that passed me were a 996 tt modified and on race tires and a modified Evo on race tries.

I would not switch to an S4.

Get Stasis's Turbo Kit and call it a day.

Re: Anyone switch from 2.0T to S4?

I think a lot of it is the difference between a vehicle being a tool or a toy. No matter how much power you have, if you view your vehicle as a toy...you will never have enough power. Same thing goes for motorcycles...once you get used to the power and it no longer scares you, you start looking for more. I test drove a stage 2 STI that wasn't even that impressive. Riding motorcycles ruins the whole concept of "fast"

So I would ask yourself.."How do I use my car". Will the extra cost add enough value to justify the purchase? If my car wasn't under warranty, I would probably consider a BT kit, but unfortunately by the time its all said and done you are looking at 7k to get an extra 100-150 hp.

I have been throwing the whole more power idea around in my head also...and to be honest I think that buying a second car that is solely for toy use is a better idea than ditching my reasonably powerful daily driver. I have always wanted something like a '69 GTO or something badass that would make my windows shake when I started it up.

get chipped. if happy, stick with it. if not, get a big turbo kit. if still not happy, go buy something with 400+ horsepower like an RS4.
