After debadge

i just debadged my A4, and when you look at it you can see a "ghost image" of the letters. It looks almost as if they put on the clearcoat AFTER they put on the letters. Is this normal? When i run my hand along it, it doesn't feel smooth either, but i'm pretty sure it's not the glue either because i took it all off with goo gone and it looks like the unevenness is from the clearcoat.

I wonder if clay barring would help?

try mild polish + a couple coats of wax.. should help a bit

edit: actually, might wanna confirm whether there's clearcoat or not.. can't imagine using polish on straight paint would be good for the car

With an 06, you shouldn't have to worry about the badge leaving a mark.

Hopefully the clay will work for you.

My 97 Accord didn't leave a mark when I took the badges off, can't imagine why you would.

goo gone with a rag then wash and then use a clay bar. mine didnt come off until i clayed it

Comments like these make me laugh, Of course some arent going to have marks, but others do. I had marks and mine was an 06, the badges were on for a good yr and half before i took them off. Even with my 04 GTI i had to goo gone it...

sorry for the late post... did you just peel them off?
or use a hairdryer to soften the glue? i hate the look of the letters, so hard to clean in the middles unless u get a q-tip or something. want to pull them all off ;)

Heat with a hair dryer or heat gun to soften the glue, then use a piece of strong fishing line or even dental floss to pop the badges off. Once off, use GOO GONE to take off all remaining residue.

Then wash, dry and POLISH the area where the letters were to remove the ghosts.

After glue is removed. Rubbing compound, polishing compound, and lots of wax, If you have an orbital buffer, all the better. The ghosting is in the clearcoat.

I had that same problem. Try using 3M rubbing compound, It works great believe me.

Had the same problem when I debadged my old jetta. Goo gone didnt work, had to get a detailer to buff it out with very light wetsanding... Hope this helps good luck.

I just took mine off last night and have the damn ghost letters. I used the hair dryer, dental floss, goo gone, washed it, waxed it and i still have them pretty bad. How do you apply the rubbing compound safely without scratching the hell out of it??

go to autozone and buy something called sticker shock, apply it a couple times and your good, plus its cheaper than goo gone.

make sure the surface is well cleaned, and apply the compound with your hand in circular motion and wipe it off after like 12 rounds with your hand. but the compound should definitely do the trick. also if you still have the paste from the emblems, then use prep-sol it will rub off
