    Taking care of powdercoated rims

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Well Ive had my rims powder coated and I can't seem to get them 100% spotless clean. To wash them, I usually just use the soap I use to wash my car on them and rinse right after but it still leaves a kinda soap stain I cant really get out. The wheels look perfectly clean from far away just up close you can see that its not perfect.

So im wondering if anyone knows the best way / stuff to use to clean powder coated rims

    Thanks

did you wash them when they were hot? Washing hot rims usually results in some stains. A light polish might bring them back.

The guy that powdercoated my rims told me the best combo is windex and microfiber towels... Not sure how effective it is since I have not tried it yet.

My buddy sprays 409 on his rims and said it breaks apart the break dust, what will the amonia do to your rims?

amonia can be very abrasive to the finish. this is the reason why wheel cleaners are normally very neutral.

Re: Taking care of powdercoated rims

I would try Meguairs Wheel cleaner or P21s, let it soak for about 1-2min, and hose the wheels. Then what I do is, take my quick detailer and clean my rims after. Its safe, just gota go old school with the elbow grease.

Re: Taking care of powdercoated rims

P21s is great. I used to just use soap, but I recently used P21s and my wheels are much blacker as opposed to the brownish-black I got before.
For the hot wheel problem, rinse them down with the hose first, then go at them (in the shade if you can). Basically it's way too hot if you spray and it dissolves / u can hear it sizzling...
