OK I went home to NY to pick up the S4 to driveback to FL. the car sat for about 12month, just got new battery. 93 octane fuel and oil additive and fuel cleaner. After the Second tank of 93 we're driving through virginia and stop for another tank of gas...fill up turn the car off and go inside. When we go to leave the car wont turn over. The lights turn on, theres just no clicking or turning over of any kind. tried a jump and it did nothing. the voltmeter reads 12Vstill and while driving it was reading 14v so i know the alternator was working. Its Sunday im stuck in Virginia (hopewell ? i think )and no dealers around are open until monday and closest one is in Richmond (going on 5hrs trying to figure this thing out with limited resources and tools)

Tough one...all I can say is make absolutely sure those battery terminals are tight and clean!

Did you check the fuse panel and make sure none of them might have blown out?

checked the fuses, its a new battery and terminals are tight. just got a taxi to walmart picked up new batteries for the key (thinking maybe transpoder).... Im using the Fairfields Wi-Fi right now because they cant even give us a room so we can sleep.

That sucks, if i wasn't at work and hours away from you i'd try and come help you out. There are some local Ziners in that area, but i guess people are still sleep.

can you hear the fuel pump prime? if the car sat that long crap coulda built up in the tank and when u went through the first tank it could have pulled it up or fuel pump relay may be goin. id try to find the fuel pump relay and tap on it might help.

If it is a tiptronic makes sure it is all the way in Park.
I have had that problem with my car because it wasn't.
Jiggle the shifter and try again.

It wouldnt be the fuel pump. His car wont turn over, that has nothing to do with the fuel pump.

Like the previous guy said, if its a tip make sure its in park all the way, or also try neuatral.

If its a manual. Well I would of thought you would of tried push starting it, if its a manual. But also check the switch on the clutch pedal that forces you to have it pushed in all the way before engine turns over.

To me it seams like it might be some kind of feature that prevents the car from turning over as a safety precaution.

The other thing would be to check starter, but I would only look at that if it makes 1 click - the click being hearing the starter engage but not turn. If that is the case the starter could be frozen.

But I think you said you turn the key and there is nothing. So that leads me to one of the safety features kicking in preventing it from starting.

if it is a 6 speed try to put it into gear and push the car back and forth to loosen the starter. also try to pop start it. if thats not it your either not getting spark or fuel could be the pump or the ignition amplifiers on the air box also check that connection

Im going to state the obvious but make sure the clutch is to the floor. It wont turn over if its not.

Well perhaps I should restate that, how would you take the key out without having the car in park? My Acura won't let you remove the key without the car being in park.

The car would be in park, but perhaps not ALL the way.(loose shifter,etc)
I have had it happen more than 5 times and all I had to do was jiggle the shifter
and/or push the shifter just a hair and it fires right up.
I don't even know if the OP has a tip or 6speed as he never stated that info.

Inhebertor switch might have gone bad. It is where it tells the computer that the clutch is pressed in all the way to allow you to turn on the car. I want to say if that is the problem you are looking at around 400-600. Closest Audi dealership to you is west broad audi they aren't the brightest so explain everything clearly and make sure you don't bullshit you around.

Ok so Im finally back in Miami from NY (with a 10 hr delay thanks to this issue).... So after having pushed the car to a hotel parking lot (across the st from the original break down) we were told we could get a room at 7 but that ended up being 10:30 before they actually let us in to nap. We got changed the batteries on the remote, got nothing. took a nap for a whole 2 hrs ! then we decided WTF we need to try something, so we went out and giggled the shifter and in N rolled it back and forth....Nothing. Back inside to ponder....dosed off for 15mins...got up said Screw it this thing is going to start went out side opened the hood looked around shut it with some heft and then started it right up....No reason nothing it just decided to turn over.

-10 hr delay
-$35 for a taxi and batteries for key
-$109 for room for 2 and half hours

The only thing I can think of and have found has been perhaps the starter solenoid was damp and prevents the car from starting or the shifter was not ALL the way in Park and was not allowing the car to turn over. The car is TIP btw.
