    time for new tires. suggestions?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Alright so im finally done with my stock pirelli P6's at 21k miles. I'm in the market for some new tires but I don't know what to get... and that's where you guys come in.

I need UHP all season tires that have very good dry and wet traction with light snow capabilities. it doesnt snow much here in socal but whenever it snows in the mountains, i'll be snowboarding. I don't really care about how good the snow traction is.. as long as it's capable of doing so.

    cliffs for the lazy:
I want a tire that has excellent dry/wet weather traction, with snow capabilities.

    so far i'm looking at:

Toyo Proxes 4. Heard they have soft side walls though.

    Falken 912

    any suggestions?

You should definitely check out the BFG super sport a/s. Great tires and can be had for a good price. On a cosmetic side, the side profile of the tire looks sleek and nice as well

That has 0 snow capability. Also the Falken 912's won't be too good in the snow either. My uncle put them on his Accord but he only runs them in the summer.

My suggestion would either of the following:

    BFG g-Force Super Sport A/S:

    Yokohama Advan S.4.:

    Michelin Pilot Sport A/S

Would have to disagree with everyone else above:

    http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....+F1+All+Season

These are what I'd suggest. Good reviews from colleagues on other Audi forums, in fact I've never heard a negative review from an owner of these. Understand that none of the tires you're looking at are going to be quite as sticky as a summer tire, but I think you know that. These are definitely the way to go, and not outrageous via TR.

Re: time for new tires. suggestions?

i was really happy with the falken ziex's, i had both the 512 and the 912.

they're a little loud, but that's pretty much the only downside that i could really see with them. they gripped well in dry and wet. the sidewalls were stiff enough that they didn't feel sloppy in hard cornering. i had them on a rear wheel drive car, and i could get around just fine in a few inches of snow. i'm sure with quattro, they'd be fantastic.

i have not tried the toyos, but i've heard good things.

MAlby7 I know these tires are not for snow. But you can get away with it i have done it. As for the all season i would go for the Potenza RE960AS Pole Position.

Re: time for new tires. suggestions?

Toyo sucks. I had the T1R and I hated them. Tires are one of the most important things on a car. I would not cheap out on them.

    Here is some good Info:

The Potenza RE050A Pole Position features a higher 90% silica content tread compound molded into an asymmetric tread design with stable shoulder elements, large tread blocks and a continuous center rib on the outboard side to provide responsive handling, high-speed stability and traction on dry roads, while wide circumferential and lateral tread grooves pump water out from under the tire’s footprint to minimize hydroplaning and aid wet traction. Another continuous circumferential rib adjacent to the inside shoulder blocks enhances wear quality to help reduce noise throughout the life of the tire, especially on cars with alignment settings that specify negative camber. The tire's structure includes twin, handling-optimized steel belts reinforced by spirally wrapped nylon to stabilize the tread area and enhance traction, high-speed capability and ride quality while minimizing weight. The fabric cord body and higher sidewall reinforcement helps blend uniform ride quality with steering response and lateral stability.

This place has Bridgestone tires for about $25.00 less than tire rack which is unheard of. Everyone tries to match tirerack’s prices.

And where does this educated guess come from? Check out the wet traction rating on tirerack and see if your opinion still stands: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....odel=ADVAN+S.4.

Toyos will be the lightest out of the ones you are considering. Thats enough to sway me.

Hey Kevin, I'd really like to go for a ride in your car again to see what the PSS9's feel like.

Also, if you want to just do Pirelli again it would be a lot cheaper since you have that full size spare in the trunk. Im so glad I have an extra PS2 back there.

Re: time for new tires. suggestions?

Don't get Falken 912. I have them. I don't want to think about driving them in the snow, ice, or slush. Also, they aren't that good for Autocross. Falken recommends the 452 (and Azenis 615) for autocrossing.

The siping is very minimal, M+S rated? I call B.S. in terms of actual usefulness in the winter. Along that note, don't bother with Pirelli P-Zero Nero M+S.

You won't want the Kumho ECSTA ASX--- soft side walls are common with many Kumhos

How about Goodyear Eagle F1 All-Season? Though I am not a goodyear fan.... they are supposed to be the best of the compromise tires
