    Re: Totalled or No?

I can't imagine that it would be even close to being totalled - it usually takes about 75% of the cars value in repair work in order to total and I don't think you'll be very close to that (obviously without seeing pictures).

    Re: Totalled or No?

I think it will be close. Especially if you need a new door. That's a lot of parts messed up and a ton of labor to repair. It may end up bing very close to the 75% mark.

Sorry to hear about the accident. What happened?

With that much damage, I would hope that they just total it cause I would hate driving around in a car that has been damaged before because it's just not the same anymore.

    Re: Totalled or No?

It is hard to get it totaled, I guess it depends on your insurance agency. I had a side impact collision with a large truck. Refused to total the car, ended up with new doors on driver's side, new front bumper and hood, new rear bumper, new headlight, three new wheels and tires, and other various parts. Came to somewhere around 23,000 payment to the Audi bodyshop on a 33,000 car. It was not the same, so I got rid of it as soon as I got it back.

It's totalled. I wrecked my previous b5 and it was crunched a bit on just the hood, front bumper, and left front fender and that was the end of that

    Re: Totalled or No?

It's not just dependent on the damage. It's simple math. Value of car - damages. If that's positive, then they probably won't total it. A list of the damage doesn't help us...pictures will say it all as mentioned.

Here's the damage I have to my car: Front bumper/hood (scratched and dented, not too bad), both rear quarter panels done, rear bumper done, rear trunk lid done, rear roof misaligned, exhaust completely done, front windshield cracked and S6 LEDs gone (covered under insurance). They didn't total my car. Just FYI.

best way to determine, did air bags go off? if so, prob is totaled. In most cases, when airbags go off in an accident, its basically totaled.

Yes its me :) The airbags did not delpoy, the collision occured approximately 35mph, I am perfectly fine hehe. Ive determined the collision damages to be approximately 10,000+ in cosmetic damage, not to include any other hidden damages. If they factor in cost of labor + tax, it will be a close one.

Ive concluded after reviewing the video, which for all official purposes does not exist, that the esp system was the cause of the collision, just one of the very few situations where the conditions of the road outmatched the computer. Very silly of me as I usually drive with it off... not sure why i left it on this time, but i guess its a mistake i wont make again.

    Re: Totalled or No?

Considering its a 08, they will probably pay for $10,000 of they have to and not total it. Couple years ago my mom had $12,000 in damage to her 1 year old Murano and insurance fixed it.

My recent accident needed a driver side back door( new + repaint ), quarterpanel, back bumper, rear driver wheel + alignment was estimated at $3,800.

I'm sorry, but I do not think it was the ESP that caused you to wreck the car. If ESP was causing accidents it would not be in the car. Be it you, or the other driver....it was human error that led to the crash. You were just In the wrong place at the wrong time. I'm gla to hear your okay.

let's wait on more opinions until he posts the pics, for an 2008 car, it must be extremely damaged for it to be labeled "totaled"

    Re: Totalled or No?

Damn John, sorry to hear you got in an accident but I'm glad to hear that you're alright. I hope everything works out and you can get a new car if you have any real bad damage. Ha, you could always buy some new body parts and we could help you throw them on at the DIY day on the 25th... So I'm guessing this phantom video was taken with the headrest mount? That would be an interesting one to watch...

Im going to have to agree with that. There is no way the computer couldnt calculate the conditions as fast as you could and react appropriately...

    Re: Totalled or No?

My dad has an auto body shop so I see some pretty messed up cars and if you have mainly body work then thats fine. To total a car it has to be 75% of the value of the current price. Since your car is still new you would have to have over $20,000 worth of damage for them to not fix your car. I would put it to stock tho just in case cuz the insurance companies love fucking with that like saying oh well your rims or suspension caused you to spin out and crash. just bs like that. good luck

Sorry to hear about the accident, glad to hear you're alright.

I doubt that you'll be close to the $20K+ amount in damage to total the car though.

doesn't sound totalled to me. Let your insurance company know though, if they determine that the repairs are over 90% of your cars current value, they usually will just pay you for it.

Ok. Let's start from the beginning. First you need to find out what the total loss threshold is in your state. Here in Nevada if the damage exceeds 65% of the vehicle's actual cash value then it's declared a total loss. If they use recycled or aftermarket parts then it will reduce the actual estimate. Yes I know your car is a 2008, some insurance companies will use recycled or aftermarket parts regardless even if the car just rolled out of the dealership and only has 5 miles on it. If you can post detailed pics I can give you a rough idea if they will fix it or not. Also what insurance company do you have.
Just so you know I work for State Farm as an auto damage estimator.
