VDO boost gauge.... doesnt light up?

i got the VDO boost gauge and steering pod from ecs. i was just wondering why it doent light up? or DOES it, and im missing something? i tried to post a link to the pod, but its the only VDO one ECS has for a b5, so im hoping someone can help me out. its nice too see what im boosting at times.... NOT just during the day time.
any help?

Did you hook up the two wires for the light? Stupid question but I have to ask...

could be:

-didnt connect power to gauge
-wiring is shoddy, may need to be re-soldiered
-bulb is loose
-bulb is dead

maybe your model isnt backlit?
