There is a road out near winchester that is a great drive if you need to clear your head. Its two lanes and its great with a bunch of turns and the best part is that it spits you out over the ridge and into the valley.

Theres a particular stretch of road either on 29 or 50, I don't remember which one. Its right after the Fairfax County Government Center, its 4 open lanes each side that runs underneath I believe Fairfax County Parkway (7100). I've driven this a few times awhile back during the evening hours, its roughly a good 1/4~1/3mile stretch

A little dangerous but driving across the American Legion Bridge from MD into VA. That downward slope on the MD-side that runs into the bridge and straight across onto the VA-side...a good 1/4mile stretch

On 50, near Gallows Rd and 495. That stretch of straightaway is pretty decent.

Some of the locations mentioned are regular speed trap locations for cops, and/or roads with blind corners and zero room for error.

    Yup!

Unless you're asking for a ticket or arrest, theres no reason to go out and "test" your cars capabilities. Track it for best results

EDIT: The roads I mentioned above, I've never gone over 90 and I do it on the spur of the moment. I also do not recommend doing these WOT testings.

This is why im not posting the roads, i dont want to see them congested, ESPECIALLY since some of the best ones are only one lane in either direction. Believe me, there are some VERY amazing gems in the area.

    know the exact road...

very bad idea, cops are at either end on foot w/ radar guns...they park their cars on the other side of the on/off ramp and look over the divider w/ their guns...

Yep! I drive that stretch everyday on the way to work. Lately, I haven't seen them as much, but there are times when I see them 3 or 4 times a week. There are definitely some other nice roads in the Clifton area that you can spend a lot of time on. I have lived in that area for a long time and know the roads pretty well. If you are going to speed through them, you definitely need to drive them a bunch first to learn the turns as there are a lot of blind turns, hills you can get sideways air on, and lots of trees. I have heard that there can be a lot of cops back there, but I haven't seen them... I only go for a drive out that way once or twice every few months.

In all seriousness, it really isn't a great idea to be driving hard on those back roads. You never know if you're going to come around a corner and there will be a stopped car or an animal... If you really want to have fun in a safe environment, you should really go to Summit Point or another track. They are extremely fun and educational as you get to ride with an instructor who is very experienced. I learned 10x what I knew about driving the weekend I went to the track and got a lot of seat time, about 200 minutes (10, 20 minute sessions). So, my suggestion is to definitely take it to the track. While you still have the ability to mess yourself and your car up at the track, you won't be putting other innocent people's lives at risk...

The only standing start, straight line racing I enjoy is on the way to the first corner.

It is speed that you're looking for or testing out handling? Speed, I'd do it somewhere besides Fairfax County. I'd say try MD instead.

Can also be a lot of traffic on compton/clifton road, but can also be a lot of fun.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snickersville_Turnpike- That is the funniest road i have ever been on. I dont remember how to get there as I went with a couple buddies, but directions should be provided in the link. My brakes were actually fading, but those were shit M engineered brakes.

not really NOVA....but Skyline in the Shenandoah. That road can put the hurt on your car at only 45mph. Tons of turns, many of them are steeply banked.

if you cant afford a track day, i suggest auto-x to start out...a lot cheaper, and can be just as fun...

Long off ramps..... Not on ramps. You never know if there is a cop on the highway and he will "pace" you, as they like to say. I've gotten off the hook, but its a hassle.

Or, when I'm at work on Saturday's, we Auto X the parking lot.......

I wish everyone could but we have to keep it on the DL.... Usually we run a start lap and then time the hot lap. Since its 24/7 with security guards in the lobby and such (who are usually cool, but it all depends on who's working that day), cameras, Fairfax county cops that sometimes pull into the adjoining parking lots to take naps or whatever the eff they do for 2 hours just sitting there...... But its usually just a few guys I work with. One guy, John, has a smokin' 928 that he takes up to Summit all the time. He's also really good on motoGP type bikes..... and just a few other folks in their beaters or lexus', VW's, daily drivers Its all good in our hood!...

One of our firewall engineers has a NSX AND an Austin Martin... so jealous of that guy.... He lives in Centerville too...... But he won't come out to play.... Something about being a pu$$y....
