    EuroCar detail Porsche Cayenne

Got this client through a reference while doing a modded Subaru STi (500hp). The owner of the Porsche was annoyed about the scratches on the driver's side and wanted a quote on the job. Looking at the reflection of the car under sunlight I could easily notice presence of silicone based glaze. Didn't take any chances and quoted for an intensive (3 pass) polish. The Porsche looked very nice from far away, but when I inspected the car I started to see the flaws on the paint and some holograms in the hood. I explained the owner the reason for an intensive polish, and he agreed.

So few days later, got to his place and start working on the wheels and wheel wells. Sprayed some P21S TAW to remove the glaze, washed, clayed and I was so glad to quote him the right price. You'll see on the pics the scratches hidden by the glaze, it was a disaster.

All my jobs are done using Menzerna polishes, Yellow, orange and green pads for Euro cars, and Flex.

So lets get to the pics

    This is after a wash:
on this pic you can clearly see the scratches on the fender, but the rest of the paint looks ok. (sure)

So proceed with the clay bar:
    Driver's side

    Passenger's side

Let's have a look at the front fender again:

Before, the flash light is used to amplify the paint defects. The scotch tape is used to help the camera focusing on the clear coat.

Wet sanding was required (2000 and 2500 grit). Only a deep scratch remained, and this is the scratch that the dealer tried to remove by hand (as per client)

Now, a scratch on the driver's door. Note how is barely noticeable with the glaze.

Before: Glaze removed, and amplified with flash light.

Again, wet sanding with 2000 and 2500 grit

    Passenger quarter panel:
Before: You can see some haziness on the fluorescent light.

    Closer look:

    Scratch under the gaz door:

Remaining scratch is down to the primer, so this is as far as I'll go.

Let's have a look on the rest of the car under the flash light:

So as you can see, the condition of the paint was very bad.

    Re: EuroCar detail Porsche Cayenne

Now for the wheels, washed them and polished the lips as some break dust started to stick to the wheel

Washed: you can see the tools used along with P21S gel wheel cleaner

So after 8 hours of work, no breaks, and client had to leave for work, took very few after pics. The angle wasn't great either since the jeep besides didn't allow me. But this is it, hope you guys liked it.

    Thanks for watching

yes sir. I don't take any breaks. I've been doing this for 10 years on and off. I follow every step strictly to be more efficient and always organized. Also having the right tools and knowing what pad is required helps a lot.

wow what tips do you have to speed things up? I take a min of 10 hrs to do a 3 step on black cars. Did you wet sand the scratches by the door or only polish? What polish/pad/speed combo did you use? Great job by the way

Excellent work! Would you mind posting which Menzerna polishes and the pads for each?

    Thanks!

    Sure

I usually take about 20 mins to inspect the car, take pictures.. and note the places it will take more time.

Wash the car, clay and taping is about 1 hr. maybe 1.25 for this car.
While washing, I keep looking at the car's CC and confirm the worst places that require more attention.

    Polishes:

Menzerna Power gloss: Yellow LC pad
    Menzerna SIP: Orange LC pad
    Menzerna PO106FF: Green LC pad

I can help you better if I know how you work and get to do a job in 10hrs. We all work differently, use different machines and polishes. Menzerna works great for me, and I suck using Optimum polishes, I don't like meguiars that much, and 3M doesn't leave a WOW effect as Menzerna does for me.

damn thats pretty fast especially on a SUV that size.... do you prefoam or just jump straight to washing?

a big for handling a 3 step on a SUV in 8 hours.

I prefoam with a Gilmours foam gun, P21S as degreaser.

The most common mistake I see on people I hire, is the amount of polish used, and the pattern they follow when working an area.

I use very little product on a small area. A door I'll divide it in 4 sections. And if I use too much product it will take a longer time to brake in, and taking easily 25% more of your time.

Taping takes me 10 mins, I've been taping cars in paint shops, so when it comes to detailing it's so easy compared to a repaint prep. I've met people taking from 30min to 1hr.

I also don't take brakes.. and this is the most challenging part. Working 8 hours straight is not easy.. not even for lunch.. taking a brake slows down my body since I'm there happy working in the car, with a good amount of adrenaline.

Looks great. Did you learn the wet sanding while you were in the body shop? Always wanted to learn but I dont have any spare body panels laying around to try it out on.

yes. Not very hard to do. You gain more confidence when you know the thickness of the clear coat on a car. In general, most German cars have 3 coats of CC, and cars I refuse to wet sand are Mazdas, Fords, Chryslers. They have a very thin clear coat.

It's important to have a good eye, I've seen many wet sanding jobs that scratch marks are not removed properly due to improper lighting or because of a rushed job.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't wet sanding rather easy..tell me if this correct
    1) 1500 grit sandpaper soak it in water for a few minutes
    2) Wash area, leave area wet
    3) back and forth motions with the sandpaper
    4) Wash away residue

    Done?

How did you clean up the rims? and how did you get those scratches around the door handle gone?

    Re: EuroCar detail Porsche Cayenne

There's no magic formula to know the grit required. You have to judge on the depth and width of the scratch. 1500 grit will leave bigger scratch marks.

I usually put my sanding paper to soak overnight and bring it in a sealed compartment. Or.. first thing I do is unload, and put the paper to soak. It requires a minimum of 15mins.

A squeegee can help you see what's happening there, sometimes when it's wet you may think the scratch is gone. If you can, finish it off with a 2500grit.

The rims were polished with a metal polish.
The scratches close to the door handle were removed with an orange pad, I just taped the handles before.
