Oil Around Diverter - updated PICS

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I posted a while back about how I noticed an oily mess when I installed my 007 diverter. It has been a couple of weeks, so I went back under the car today and took some better pictures.

I just ran a boost leak test because it feels like my car isn't boosting like it did right after going APR Stage 1 several weeks ago. Boost check was pretty uneventful.

I noticed that my oil level has also gone down about two rows of dimples on the dipstick. That GD belly pan gives a false sense of security - without it I'm sure I would have drops on the driveway.

Other than the boost issue (which may be in my paranoid head) and that little oil depletion (thus the obvious leak), the car seems to be running great - no CEL's or anything.

Does anyone have ANY ideas as to where this oil might be coming from? Is there a hose that wouldn't have been obvious during the leak test? Gasket? Anything?

It's driving me NUTS!!!!! I need your expertise.

The DV is at the top of the picture. Boost reservoir is the thing on the left. I wiped most of this down a couple of weeks ago.

Small hose leading into my DV has actual drips of oil waiting to drop off.

Driver's side of engine is pretty clean, but it does look like some newer oil is working its way over there. That filter has been on about a month and a half.

The hose coming out of the bottom of the DV seems to be the worst.

Looks like you need to clean everything and see what comes back. While you are at it get rid of the POS oil filter and get a OEM TDI filter

Here's a pic I took of the valve cover area a couple of days ago. There is some seepage, but nothing else below it seems oily. The area in between the VCG and where I'm seeing all of this oil (the DV area) seems fairly clean. Could it still be the VCG?

That oil filter made me cry a bit. It also prob cost more than the correct filter.

If your valve cover is still leaking you need to check over your PCV System. Something isn't working properly. Or your valve cover gasket wasn't replaced properly.

    My thoughts exactly.

There is more to the filter than size and capacity. The relief valve pressure on the Napa/Wix is 30psi vs the stock/correct 36psi.

hmm.. i've been using the W940.25 filter from Mann Filter. i wasn't aware of a W950.4. i do oil changes every 5k though, so it probably wouldn't make much of any difference.

I change every 3-5k if i hit the relief valve pressure in that time somethings wrong.

Its an oil filter designed for a Ford V8. It just happens to fit our car.

From what I understand (check BITOG), the bypass valve (relief valve as the folks in the posts above called it) is almost always open because of higher oil pressure in our cars. Meaning that they don't have a chance to do any actual filtering, people have tested them. I stick to Mann, Bosch/OEM filters, they are even cheaper from the dealer than Mobile 1, Fram or whatever for me.

It is normal for oil from the crankcase ventilation system to be in the charge air plumbing. It is from oily aerosols that condense out and accumulate as liquid oil in the plumbing. It is leaking out from the DV hoses because there is a loose hose clamp there.

tisc tisc! MANN 940/5 or Mahle Equivalent with Motul 8100!!!! Check your cam seals, mine were leaking and I noticed that though it was hard to spot, it was the cam seals. I also had to replace my front and rear crank seals. My pcv system was also new! Pressure test did show I did have a small leak in the PRV hose clamp, it was askew, repositioned it.
