safest way to get BOV type sound

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
i have searched and searched for the last few hours... i know some solutions are:

intake - which if done wrong can screw up your car as far as heat goes.. but if i do like a carbonio (that i can get for 329 from local shop) will it cause harm to my engine.

cone filter on maf - which people like but i know people have had problems with

different DV - i know our cars arent meant for a BOV but what about a recirculating valve.. like the forge 007.. 80% recirculate and 20 atmosphere i believe

    comments are appreciated

This is kinda silly, has it been proven here that Bovs are dangerous? Has anyone here had a bov do damage to their engine? I sure haven't.

    Just get a bov.

forge 007 is 100% recirulation. And a BOV will NOT damage your car. People have this so wrong. Many people run them including myself. Forge 004 is the most common then some use the GFB hybrid or stealth and a few others like the HKS super sequential.

safest way to get the bov valve sound? buy a bov.

if you don't want a bov but want the sound, buy a turbosmart dv, carbonio cai, and stage 1 flash. mine sounds like a bov i love it.

even SSQ BOV which is 100% blow off, will not damage anything.. but ur car might start running in limp mode.. ecu thing... Get a hybrid valve and be done..

I run a BOV as well as many others without issue. Some will say it'll make the car run rich between shifts, but this is a split second and won't affect anything.

get the Forge "splitter" its a hybrid 007 and with a properly setup cone filter (properly setup = heat shield and front mount) you get a really loud blow off, and it dosnt sound retarded like an HKS does on our cars..... i have a cone filter on my maf housing with a forge hybrid and i have never had an issue and my friends with evo's wish their BOV sounded like mine... the SSQV sounds a little too fast and furious IMHO.

I plan on getting a Forge 007, is the sound suttle but still noticeable? I was next to a stock looking Passat the other day with a BOV... everyone 2 seconds when that thing down/upshifted sounded like a SCREECHING Bird, I don't want my car to sound ricer loud all the time.

Anyone know of a youtube video with a mostly stock 1.8t with a Forge DV?

the thing i dont like about GFBs and the forge splitter is that dirt can more easily get inside and slow down the valve..unless youre checking it every so often

Im running a forge splitter on mine which is pretty much the best of both worlds. Its not overly loud but its certainly louder now that I got my car chipped. I know at least two others running this setup with no problems whatsoever.

You wont get any extra sound by just installing a forge 007. I just finished installing mine (literally 10min ago). Their was no sound difference between it and stock. You will need some sort of intake or hybrid dv.

Re: safest way to get BOV type sound

A Forge 007 will give sound if you have some sort of intake. On stock boost with all the pieces going from the OEM intake snorkel through the OEM airbox all the way to the OEM tip where it vents, the sound doesn't make it out. When I installed my Afe intake(not recommended) I could easily hear my 007 and it sounded good, more flutter than a BOV. When I got my K04 for some reason you would hear the blow off sound a lot more, even at like 8 psi. If you want sound while being safe, get a 007 and a TIP and intake. It will sound like the type of blowoff our cars are meant to have instead of the higher pitched ricer squeak sound. I have a friend with a WRX and BOV and his friend that's not into cars tells everyone his car queefs lol. FYI the reason that people say it's bad to run a BOV on our setup is because the air being released was already measured by the MAF and incorporated into the A/F mixture so venting it to atmosphere releases "metered air" which the MAF+ECU counted on being combusted with fuel. What people are saying in this thread is that amount of metered air vented isn't enough to cause any harm.
