diesel questions with some VW influence

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Sooo...diesels seem to be doing fairly good these days sales wise. Depending on what the market does they could get better or worse. I'm thinking in the next year or so upgrading the B6 to maybe a B7. though I have been looking at the new jetta tdi's and really admire the gas mileage. Sure, around town they may not be as peppy but cruising on the highway at 80 and getting 45mpgs is appealing. Any thoughts, opinions, input? Sure they are front wheel drive and not AUDI's but..gosh idk! Can audi give me a diesel maybe? I drive highway fairly often and I just feel like the audi really could use some sportier seats and better mpgs. A VW is an Audi...SORTA. Hahah

There are diesel Audis. I don't know if they sell them in the US, though.

Re: diesel questions with some VW influence

guys im from ireland and over here you would be hard pushed to find a petrol audi,i'd guess 90+% are diesel.
mine is a 2.0l b7 a4 which has been mapped to over 210bhp and 330lb's torque.best bit no matter where or how i drive i have never seen less than 43mpg and upto 49 at its best.
there's a "dpf" diesel partical filter on the downpipe which limits power output but some guys have removed this and 240bhp 370lb's torque is available with just a remap but throws up fault codes,im waiting on a fix

Re: diesel questions with some VW influence

se, those are the results i want. I knew they had the diesel Audi's across the pond, but was trying to get more feedback about the VW diesel engines. Are there some good tuning parts for these?

    What does everyone think?

Re: diesel questions with some VW influence

there are guys fitting bigger turbo's,injectors mostly too a3's,bora's,golf etc but really most people stick with re maps on the a4' diesels.for some reason owners are a lot more reserved with a4's.also with the kind of torque these motors can produce at a point you have to call it quits or you just have a tyre shredder.
i have a friend with a 3.0l tdi a4 quatro which has been mapped with a miltek exhaust.its nuts but the mpg is going to be around 28-30,

Hey, I am picking up a 2005 2.0 tdi S-line next Friday and I have been investigating remapping it to 170bhp from the standard 140bhp, What have you done to get 210bhp and 330lb's?? I would be very interested in how the other components handle that power?

well mine just has had a remap, its the 170 Tdi s-line.i believe there's bigger injectors and a slightly bigger turbo from your 140.most guys i have spoke to reckon the 170 is a very tunable motor apart from the DPF mentioned earlier.the drive train seems to cope very well with the upgrade and hasn't gave any bother yet.

Do you notice increased oil consumption with the software flash? My housemate's 2006 GTI TDI consumes more oil when he runs his REVO flash versus the stock flash.

Drove my friends 3.0TDIQ A5. That's was a fun car I can tell you! Amazing torque.
And it's the new Commond Rail diesel so it doesn't sound half bad either. :)
It's the same over here. Mostly the 2.0TDIQ on the A4s....I feel so alone.........

I don't think there is any solid info on when Audi is going to sell diesels in the US. If you're looking for info on a Jetta TDI, check VWvortex.com in either the Golf/Jetta V forum or technical TDI forum. The new TDIs are very peppy around town, they build a good amount of torque at low RPM.

Although the Jetta is no A4, the quality is very good and you can get most of the same options. Be prepared to pay quite a bit for it. Even used values have skyrocketed lately. If you are planning on buying new, go to VW.com and build one with the options you want to see the prices.

Re: diesel questions with some VW influence

Oh i went to VW.com and built one..BRAND NEW with an estimated price of $24,000...pretty damn reasonable if you ask me. I've seen a few for sale on ebay but not many. When was the new bodystyle of the Jetta's 2006 or 2007?

Any reliability issues or is it basically the same as the A4 with FWD?

    Thanks!

oops. Golf TDI.. not GTI. Sorry.

It gets about 55-60mpg on the highway. Comfortable to drive around town and its no where near as slow as my A4 was when my A4 was bone stock.

well,no more than normal i think.the oil comsumption was pretty heavy till i got around 15-17k miles or so and that was on the stock map anyway.the 2.0l engines really only start to go right till 20k or so.

It will only be a matter of time for Audi to start putting VWs bluetech diesels in U.S. spec cars.

I have no idea how long of a time period we're looking at though.

I thought I heard that Audi was planning on bringing a 3.0 V6 TDI to N.A not too long in the future?

First in the Q7 and then eventually in the sedans (A6 / A4)?
