TBB wont stay on under boost

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Ive put the car under boost 2 times since i installed the boot and each time the car spits air all over. The boot always comes off the throttle body. Considering going back to stock? I just dont want to deal with this. I really want a car i can drive like its ment to be.

First time it happened i chalked it up to being user error and i didnt tighten it enough. So i made it gorilla tight. The second time im thinking its more than my error.

    Ideas?

Re: TBB wont stay on under boost

you might not be pushing it back far enough onto the throttle body. i noticed that my new (and improved) oem TBB had a ridge on the inner diameter that kind of snapped around the throttle body lip. even without the clamp on i could tell that it was somewhat locked in place. mine has not popped off yet, atleast not with 17.5 psi. :)

Re: TBB wont stay on under boost

I pushed the boot as far on the throttle body as it is possible. I even put the clamp on gorilla tight, which, i admit, the clamp isnt isnt top of the line or any of that business but should do the job adequately. I would like to drive this car as its meant to be and not be scared to hit the accelerator.

Spray hairspray on the out side of the TB then put the hose on.

Never had that problem. My Samco tbb fit really tight and I screwed my clamps down tight.I am spiking at 20 with no problems.

Re: TBB wont stay on under boost

make sure the clamp holding the boot onto the TB is in a good spot, meaning try having it be the same distance from the edge of the clamp to the edge of the TBB all around, you dont want it to be angled with say the top edge being a lot closer than the bottom edge. and what TBB are you using?

Also be sure to clean the throttle body lip really well (use a grease removing cleaner). The oily residue will definitely let it pop off.

Re: TBB wont stay on under boost

I have the same TBB from 034, put it in last week. So far it's been fine, no problems (knocks on wood). I don't know what to tell you, make sure everything kind of snaps in place and all the screws are tightened. Also for the big clamp, I know it's kind of hard to adjust it in place cause you don't have much room to work around, but also double check that its straight, meaning covers all side at the same spot.

Re: TBB wont stay on under boost

Interesting. This is the second complaint in as many days I have read regarding 034 TBBs popping off under boost. The owner of the first thread cited the lack of grooves on the TBB may be the reason, is it true that the 034 TBB does not have the grooves where the clamps sits ? As far as TBB goes, IMO, Achtunning has the best option out there (http://shop.achtuning.com/index.asp?...ROD&ProdID=543).

Another alternative to TBBs is the APR BiPipes (http://shop.achtuning.com/index.asp?...ROD&ProdID=518), which are on-sale right now. There are plenty of thread on this topic already and like any other product out there, there are arguements from both side. Do a little research and draw your own conclusion on if that is something you are interested. in

Re: TBB wont stay on under boost

know this thread is kinda old, but bumping it just to tell others that my 034 TBB also popped off. A couple times. every time I put it on, i paid close attention to making sure the clamps were straight (a mm or two from the edge all the way around). I also did it super tight. I put the stock one back on. The stock TBB has the ridge on the inside of the hole that connect to the TB, which I keeps it on, unlike the 034 (or SAMCO).

Gonna rock the stock one for now. If/when it goes, Ill look into the achtuning one, since it may have the ridge on the inside to keep it on the TB. (can anyone confirm that the achtuning one has the ridge onteh inside?)

Re: TBB wont stay on under boost

mine popped off a couple times, turns out it was just me being and idiot and not putting it on all the way, dont be scared! jam that bitch on and take a dv off stick your finger underneath it, see if that edge is actually on the throttle body, mine kept getting rolled under, and poppin off at high boost, but its been well over a year since it happened GL

Yeah, I cleaned everything well and had good clamps. I have much turbo experience and know how to secure couplings on cars that boost 30lbs.

Im just gonna rock the stock one. If its good for your stg 3 power, its fine for my stg 1.

It also could be from intake manifold spacers couldn't it? If you have thicker spacers it may cause the bi-pipes to pull the tbb off of the tb under boost.

    Should change your sig then...lol..jk

But yeah, thats what im doing, rocking the stock one. I think if you have the T revised TBB and the new better clamps, the stock one is fine. theres people wit stg 3 running the revised one with good clamps.

If I have a problem Ill be gettin achtuning or SAMCO, as they both have the retaining ridge to lock it onto the TB. I really like the achtuning one, so thats what ill prob go with that one.

I have another thread going and people are saying that the Samco has a ridge on the inside of the opening to the TB?
