    MPG down?

I have a 1.8T FWD. I calculate MPG after I fill up my tank and I remember getting close to 31 mpg before. Recently it's down to 27-28 mpg. The only thing I've changed recently are my wheels from 16" to 17", both were stock wheels.

Oh, and I also got a GIAC chip a while back but my mileage stayed constant after I added it so I doubt it's a factor.

I just hit 50k. What kind of mileage are you guys getting with just a chip?

    Re: MPG down?

Is it pretty easy to replace? I used to do it all the time on my Corrado.

    Re: MPG down?

    NOTICE TO ALL:
I don't know if it's country-wide or state by state but gas stations do use a better mix in the summer to cut down on smog in the heat. You tend to get better mpg using it. When they switch back, which they are probably doing about now, you're going to get slightly less mpg.

I have to reason the OP probably drove a different mix of gasoline and city/highway. That's not a really big change in mpg. I wouldn't even flinch.

The wider tyre you have the lower MPG it goes.

    Re: MPG down?

I noticed the same in my car but I was thinking it was due more to the fact that I did the N709 mod. My average has gone down quite drastically.

    Re: MPG down?

Not really. Tire width stayed the same. I need to undue that N709 mod and drive for a week or so.

    Re: MPG down?

As long as you stay out of boost, your mpg is the same. Makes sense, right? No boost means no extra fuel for extra boost.

    Re: MPG down?

When is the last time you changed your plugs? Hopefully they were done at 35K as per the manual, otherwise, your gas mileage will continue to drop. I had the same issue and this was the resolution...right back to 31-33 highway

    Re: MPG down?

Yeah the plugs were done at at around 25k actually. I do have a set of new plugs on hand, I might just throw em in.

    Re: MPG down?

mpg is not whats important, you need to be worrying about how to make it go faster, not trying to make her drink less gas.

I don't think it's the n249 mod. I did it two weeks ago and have noticed no change at all.

more performance normally does mean lower mpg....... even if you are just talking factions.

and yeah, unless your pushing a larger turbo the N249 removal isn't gonna do much. removign the N249 just allows you to hold your boost longer since the ECU won't have the ability to control when the system dumps all the pressure out though the DV.

if that is all you care about..why did you buy an a4...i bought the a4 for mpg and awd first...so far all performance mods i have done have increased my mpg while driving normal, except the n249 mod which did nothing really but f'up my mpg...the car runs better and get much better mpg without this done

    Re: MPG down?

When i wrecked my M3 i wanted to get something AWD, went shopping for a S4, saw how much of a bitch they were to work on and that i could get an A4 with some mods and be faster then the S4 anyway :P

so now i have AWD and VROOOOM where my 95 M3 only had the VROOOOM! with a stage 3 setup on my 1.8t i still get better MPG then the BMW 3.2L inline6.
